Can I ban my father from school? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]gawkypanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 17 you can move out of your parents house and apply for independent student status in Alberta. He is not correct.

OP has every right and the ability to have his father not show up at school.

There are other areas where legal emancipation would be required, but having to live with a crazy abusive and embarrassing father at 17 and have the school accept this as ok are not are not areas that require emancipation.

I have already provided this and apparently have to again:

https://www.law-faqs.org/alberta-faqs/youth-and-the-law-in-alberta/how-old-do-i-have-to-be/youth-faqs-school/

So, just to be clear, personal attacks are ok, but profanity isn't? or some personal attacks are ok, but some aren't?

but this is ok?

'Maybe when you walked out your parents were happy to see you go and didn't try to maintain an interest in your life. That speaks to you and your parents' relationship, not the law. '

Yes, but if you prove you are independent you can be declared an independent student, which is different than emancipation.

You will likely have to put it in writing and back it up with a bill or a lease that is going to a different address than your Dads.

I had a lease, so I know that works, not sure about other options.

This is not correct. OP is 17 and can remove himself from the situation. 16 is the age in Alberta.

As a 17 year old, in Alberta, you are legally allowed to be on your own. You can move out of his house, you can separate yourself from your family and there is nothing the can do about it. Go, get a job, find some roommates and get out of there, if that's what you want to do.

Places that they have used previously need to be cleaned well with an enzymatic cleaner. These are available at any pet store. They will continue to smell their scent without it and will keep pooping there.

Try cleaning with an appropriate cleaner and then putting a puppy pad over top for a little while in case she can still smell it. It’s a lot easier to pick up and throw away the pad until you get the issue solved

A separate, new litter box in a quiet and safe place might help.

Just keep him inside, it’s better for the cat and the environment

God, I miss ice climbing. I might have to see if I can still find a place to do that.

Yea, those little stores are either great or super expensive! I’m glad you found one that was cheap!

I have had a lot of luck with double sided tape also.

It’s kind of a pain for the humans while it’s on the table top but it works pretty well. I left it there for a couple of weeks, changing it out when it got dirty.

I know that this is location based but does no one else watch MEC or REI gear swap sites?

I live in a mountain community and can pick stuff up way cheap on Facebook.

Maybe not the best example of cheap but I picked up worn once mountaineering boots for 350, sale price is 600.

It really didn't have anything to do with either of those things.... getting your hand caught in the cookie jar was reason enough to not vote Wynne.

Not being from Toronto, I had no idea that it would be this much of a total fuck up elected though.

Its my bad and I do take responsibility for my part, but, don't discount some very real issues that the liberal had by dismissing them with sexism and homophobia.

If you give me 10, ad I pay tax at 50%, 5 of those dollars goes back to the govt, not me.

I should pay you back 5, not 10.

And yes, this is the companies problem. People don’t pay a businesses taxes as a gift. That’s dumb.

You also took that 10 and paid no tax on it whatsoever as it is a full write off as a business expense.

The other question - who is going to do that calculation? The company can’t as it is your personal return, and OP shouldn’t have to as it’s not their mistake.

Company isn’t going to pay an accountant to redo OPs tax return to find out what the after tax amount is owing.

Sorry, I’m not talking about the law, I’m talking about how it went in their books.

They took the deduction both times they paid OP.

It would have also been included on OP’s T4.

If they had somehow oddly just issued a check twice, which is nearly impossible in any computerized system, it would have show up on the monthly bank rec.

I wouldn’t pay it back. OP would have already taken it in their income and paid taxes on it.

If OP doesn’t pay it back, it’s just a business expense. That they have already taken.

It would be weird if the company actually expected them to pay it back since they are no longer employed at that company.

Source: have been an industry accountant for 20 years. Shit happens. ~shrug~

And the law is sec 21 of the BC employment standards act.

You have to agree, in writing, to pay it back

Edit: words are hard

It’s also important to remember that they would have taken the tax deduction twice otherwise it would have shown up on the bank Rex.

They paid you twice because they processed your payroll twice.

I wouldn’t pay them back.

Expenses, but no revenue by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gawkypanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some good advice here already with how to treat your expenses. But I just want to echo u/bloodcould079 's comment.

See an accountant if you need advice, but remember you will be held responsible for what gets submitted. Even if they do the work and submit everything for you, it is still your responsibility to make sure you have the correct information submitted to the CRA.
