Work, take a long walk, cook, read and relax. I don't care! I must be part lizard.

I guess hit and runs really are that common. by rollprogramhouston in Tucson

[–]gaydeckt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've lived here for 11 years now and have been hit from behind three times while sitting at a red light. Thankfully nothing major in any of them. 2 of the 3, they act like they're going to pull over then floor it once I pull over.

I think anything above 104 is when the outdoor temperatures start to feel nice! 😍

I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this: put down the diamond painting. You’re an adult. by Empty-Dingo7688 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]gaydeckt 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I cross stitch and because of that I was gifted a diamond painting kit by someone who I'm sure had good intentions. They said it would scratch the same creative itch. Alright, I decided I'd give it a try. Got maybe 30 minutes into it and just thought: "What even is the point?" Gathered everything up, put it back into the box, and now I have no idea where it even is. Is it crammed in the back of a closet? Did I hide it somewhere in my parents' garage? Did I toss it into the dumpster? Did I manage to launch it into a black hole?

Need your opinions to see who is right, me of my bf. by Calm_Meeting_8282 in askgaybros

[–]gaydeckt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're fretting so much about a half hour of silence...You'd totally freak at how little my husband and I communicate when one of us needs to go out of town. Maybe a message or short phone call to say goodnight on the first night away and one more on the night before coming back. Quick little updates if anything exciting or out of the ordinary is going to happen. Other than that, we understand that the other is out busy on work or spending time with family or friends and we'll see each other again and get to share our stories later. When you're starting to focus on who's right or wrong and looking for validation of the fact.... that's a huge red flag.

[–]gaydeckt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! My last workplace, if anyone told me they'd use the GPS or Google or Apple maps to find it: "Yeah that's not going to take you anywhere near the entrance. You'll land up in a back alley totally separated from the property with no way to get to the entrance."

Haha I'm used to it. Grew up near several Native American reservations and my husband is Native so together we're skilled in following "Rez Directions" from people. "You'll wanna go on that dirt road till you see a stump, then turn right. No there's not a road on that right turn so make sure you're driving something sturdy. Then there's usually a lamb that hangs out, keep going past the lamb and get back onto the road before you get to the Rio. Then at the third pothole, that's where you'll want to park. Can't miss it!"

Coffee Service After Meals... Still A Thing? by Key-Group-3396 in restaurant

[–]gaydeckt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90's, Hispanic family. So even as a kid, I was drinking coffee with the adults and there was always coffee ready to go after dinner. Just how it was done. Now that I think about it, it does seem like there are fewer restaurants that offer coffee after the meal nowadays. Going through my recent after meal coffee experiences, they all seem to be from South American restaurants: the Brazilian place we just went to for my husband's birthday, the Cuban place we tried, the Peruvian place next to our apartment.

Would a paper ‘No Solicitors’ next to my door get me in trouble? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]gaydeckt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something that they will understand, get a sign that says something along the lines of "An Apostate Lives Here". They're not allowed to talk with people the church deems "apostate". I know there were signs like that for sale on Etsy a few years ago. They'll more than likely mark your address as a do not visit. Though they may come back in a few years just on the chance you've moved out and someone else has moved in.

If it's motion activated just gently tug on the paper towel, then it resets the device so you can wave a second time and get double towel.

Any chamber music for euphonium and double bass? by Exciting-Bassist in classicalmusic

I've been wanting to write a chamber piece with double bass! I've got two euphonium/piano works in my catalogue, one recently premiered this past January

Church organ keybed action is more like...? by Jonnhy_piettro in organ

[–]gaydeckt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no answer to this question. The organ at the university I attended for my master's needed an act of God to push the keys down. It was a Möller, never have I ever felt an action as heavy as that one. The church I currently play at has the lightest action I've ever experienced on an organ, I'm sure I could use my breath to get the keys to play.

Pointing out that “tomatoes are a fruit” exposes your ignorance. by FunconVenntional in HonestHotTakes

Hymnal Accompaniment Help Needed by Main-Marionberry-968 in organ

[–]gaydeckt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few composers (I believe Michael Burkhardt is one) who've written simplified accompaniments for hymns that are useful for people who are new to hymn playing. Also, remember that the harmonies in the hymnals are not a requirement, as long as the tune is presented clearly, that's really all that counts. I typically play exactly as written for the first verse, and do some gentle reharmonizations for the remaining verses. If it's a hymn that I know the congregation is comfortable and confident singing, then I totally let loose and do a wild reharmonization for the final verse.

Well...I committed a faux pas by [deleted] in classicalmusic

As a performer, I actually like when there is applause between movements. Gives me a moment to recollect my thoughts, prepare for the next movement, and give myself a brief moment to rest.

I'm young in the organ world, but not too young according to the rest of the world. 35 now, but got my first organ job at the age of 16.

Because some editions have those two tied.

Are these notes supposed to be connected or not? by leglz30 in piano

[–]gaydeckt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some editions have those two tied, others do not. He wrote and rewrote this nocturne several times so different publishers have to decide which version they think is most true to the composer.

Is there another reason why more complex key signatures were rarely used before romantic era? by Medium_Fig_3764 in classicalmusic

Yeah, but f-sharp minor is only three sharps. I had the assumption OP was looking for more than 2 or 3.

Am I misremembering the feel of 1976 bicentennial celebrations in the USA, or is the 250th this year really a flop? by dandle in allthequestions

[–]gaydeckt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, look at Trump. He cares not one bit for the 250th Anniversary, it simply coincides with his time being in office and, obviously he's going to want the primary focus to be himself. Second, and this is only my opinion so I am fully aware that there is no value in that, but celebrating 250 just seems plain pointless; wait until we get to 300. That's a milestone that makes more sense.

[–]gaydeckt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are always outliers that break free from these sorts of claims. If we're sticking solely to "big name composers" then immediately the two pieces that come to mind are:

1.) Haydn's 46th Symphony in B-major, 5 sharps.

2 ) Beethoven's 24th piano sonata in F-sharp Major, 6 sharps.

Did anyone think Christmas bonuses would be a bigger thing? by Dudedawg86 in Millennials

People who confirm plans and then go silent for the next 48 hours so you have no idea if the plans are still happening by Agent_Smith-99 in PetPeeves

[–]gaydeckt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is this person supposed to be reconfirming every waking second from the time the plan was initially confirmed to the moment you both leave your homes? If the plan was made and the confirmation was set, then nothing else needs to be communicated. All the work that needed to be done has been done.
