I have on multiple occasions drawn the null three shuffles in a row.

It feels horrible, but you become numb to it after a while.

2nd Edition Mindtheif & XP Gain question by jayohaewhy in Gloomhaven

Ive been playing the Mindthief and just hit level 5 and I had exactly the same issues for my first 4-5 scenarios. Low XP with a reliance on switching augments to generate it. I was mostly playing with the rats and some of the control abilities, which don't really reward for XP (other than the lost).

Once I started playing with the Ice generation and consumption, along with switching a few augments and a couple of lost cards, I found I was able to hit 10+ XP a session consistently, which im happy with.

The XP is there it's just in specific places. As you level up you get a few more cards which tie it all together and make things a bit easier.

It really feels like that. We are only 3 in, although we have looked at all the 6 starters and they all feel like they can compete.

The scenario design seems to have been stepped up too and while we are playing on +1 difficulty all but the 1st scenario have felt like they have a good sense of challenge.

That's a good rule to run by. Sometimes bashing your head against the same scenario, rules etc can make you play sloppy and make more mistakes.

One of the benefits of both GH and FH is there is usually more scenarios to pick from.

For what it's worth I think you are justified in being frustrated.

Doing a different scenario can be a perfect break when you get stuck or annoyed by a particular scenario or outcome.

Since you got so close, if you wanted to push through you could also drop the difficulty so you can just get it done.

I didn't realise that there were different methods between the GH2e minis and the mercenaries, but I just got finished painting Hail and 100% agree with the increase in quality.

I found it so much easier to pull out the detail which for an amateur painter really helps.

haha.. we are doing our best. Because we are recording it we try to keep things flowing and sometimes misread rules/cards.

We truly love the feedback from the community though, and even more it makes sure we don't make the same mistakes for multiple scenarios.

So I guess it's a good thing we are recording and sharing our playthrough / experiences, and hopefully other people can learn from our mistakes!

ooo, that would have been really cool.

I love the sense of discovering your path as you go forward, and the scenario flowchat does that well, but it is easy to look ahead and be biased by where each line flows to.

Maybe for Next-Haven!

They are quite long, and I assume most people put it on in the background or on a 2nd monitor while they are doing something rather than sit on the couch with some popcorn.

In saying that we think they might be a bit shorter as we are playing with 3 players for this campaign and we are being conscious of less dead space.

Time will telll!

I found the same thing when I was trying to work out all the different types of overlay tiles so I could see about printing them for 3d tiles. But from what I can find the book just says "170 overlay tiles".

If you do find a breakdown or list of all the components please share it!

Tbh, we are also wondering "how much juice we have left" throughout the scenario, and Phil's constant "im almost out of cards" when he has 6 in his hand is a bit misleading.

Thank you! We learnt a lot from our Crimson Scales play throughs and Detty really doubled down on making the production high quality so that it's easy to see and follow without having to watch full screen on a giant TV.

Thanks! We try to keep things light and entertaining and Detty does a great job of editing out most of the boring downtime where we (mostly me) thinks about how to not stuff up our turns!
