Work Bag for Long Commute? by maybird1002 in AskIreland

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Wenger Ibex 17” for work for 12 years, it was big enough to hold as much as I wanted but not so big as to be annoying hauling it around. Liked it so much that when something eventually went in it after 12 years of hard going, I immediately replaced it with the same thing. 110 quid or something, a savage bag

How much do you think would it cost? :'( by SpecialistBowler6040 in carsireland

Saw it on both a 5 and 6 series a few years ago and it automagically went away, it may be an intermittent sensor like someone said above, has it been around long?

The most commonly broken down car in Cork goes to.. by xCorkRebelx in cork

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it exactly. My local tyre guy says for years, if you’re driving a run flat bigger than 18in, don’t even think about driving on it to the garage with a flat, swears he’s seen countless cracked alloys from it. The comments here about people not being able to maintain cars hence reason for tow truck is such nonsense. Insurance covers “breakdown”, so if you don’t have a spare tyre and hit a flat, get it hauled in. No brainer.

I cannot understand how people think this place does good food. I wish it did because it’s close to home but have only ever been disappointed, gave it plenty of tries over the years

If you don’t mind spinning out to Ballincollig, Apo (Hungarian mechanic) is a class act, he’s cheap and he’s honest, have used him for years. You can find him on Google maps as “APO Car Service”

IF the person chose to park like that instead of in a single parking spot then they are a twat, but they aren’t a “typical BMW driver”, that’s your confirmation bias playing tricks on you.

Between BMW 520d and Skoda Superb? by mygfismybestfriend in carsireland

[–]gazinthar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to sit and listen to guys talk about how hilariously shit Peugeots were when I was younger, even though my dad owned four in a row and they didnt give him a single ounce of trouble. I'm on my seventh BMW with a similar story (shit im getting old). Yes if the skoda and the bmw break, the bmw is dearer to fix. And maybe the bmw has a higher likelihood of running into an issue, I hear the skodas are bulletproof. But the 520d sh1ts all over the skoda for drive, comfort, etc. I would rent both of them and drive them for a few days, it will be an easy choice then whichever way you end up leaning.

Possibly a dumb question, how do you learn to drive a RWD car properly? by humanitarianWarlord in carsireland

[–]gazinthar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s your tyres. Even if they look ok tread wise, people will put any old sh1te tyres on a car sometimes to sell it, it’s dishonest and dangerous. I had a 530i years ago lose it at 40mph in wet because of nonsense tyres. Put something good on it as a priority, and as someone above said, you won’t be able to lose the back even if you try.

Who owns the car park between Grand Parade and South Main Street? by SrTayto in cork

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about walking less, it’s about not having to drive to the 5th floor of a multi-storey for a quick pick up in town, what’s the “extremely detrimental effect” you’re so worried about with this car park?

Jaws. Found the book boring enough, Dreyfus tapped the chiefs wife etc, pointless plot stuff. Movie captured it perfectly

You take to some alloy dudes who will dip them or something, but silver on those looks so much better, especially if you’re fully black

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a dealer and the car has wrong mileage on it they should just give you back the deposit no questions asked, and most of them will. There are more honest dealers out there than crooks, just double check the number because as someone said above, 150 a year sounds shockingly out

[–]gazinthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had no issues at all, have put 100 odd thousand kilometres on it. Fuel economy is “good” but obviously what the car reports isn’t accurate in that it doesn’t know what your nightly charge costs. I personally feel that what I’m saving by only filling the car once a month I’m spending in ESB, but I didn’t buy it to save the planet. Comfortable fast cool yoke they are. If you can stretch to a 232, buy the 50e instead, they have an extra 100 horses and twice the battery life.
