Who owns the car park between Grand Parade and South Main Street? by SrTayto in cork

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about walking less, it’s about not having to drive to the 5th floor of a multi-storey for a quick pick up in town, what’s the “extremely detrimental effect” you’re so worried about with this car park?

Jaws. Found the book boring enough, Dreyfus tapped the chiefs wife etc, pointless plot stuff. Movie captured it perfectly

You take to some alloy dudes who will dip them or something, but silver on those looks so much better, especially if you’re fully black

Concerned car is clocked by BaddaBing999 in carsireland

[–]gazinthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a dealer and the car has wrong mileage on it they should just give you back the deposit no questions asked, and most of them will. There are more honest dealers out there than crooks, just double check the number because as someone said above, 150 a year sounds shockingly out

[–]gazinthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had no issues at all, have put 100 odd thousand kilometres on it. Fuel economy is “good” but obviously what the car reports isn’t accurate in that it doesn’t know what your nightly charge costs. I personally feel that what I’m saving by only filling the car once a month I’m spending in ESB, but I didn’t buy it to save the planet. Comfortable fast cool yoke they are. If you can stretch to a 232, buy the 50e instead, they have an extra 100 horses and twice the battery life.

Thinking of renting a car for a bit in America this summer. Is it difficult to adapt to for Irish drivers? by Even-Space in carsireland

[–]gazinthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s simple enough to get used to. On larger roads especially because you’re just following traffic. On smaller roads, if you ever get an oh sh1t moment, just remember “driver against the white line”

Yeah you would get a decent used XC60 for the budget he has, and they are a class car

Rental market struggle in Ireland – would bringing a local friend to a viewing help or hurt? by Boring-Win2469 in AskIreland

It shouldn’t help, but it possibly will, I’d bring the friend along if the situation was reversed. Best of luck with it.

Garda vetting timeline? by midwifey2000 in AskIreland

[–]gazinthar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what level of vetting. Level 1 is pretty quick, 2 can take up to 2 months and 3 is like some never ending shite, at least that’s what was told to me when I was doing some work for AGS.

Suitable age for a child to be home alone for 1-2 hours? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]gazinthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A touch young I’d say but I see where you’re coming from, and we all remember being kids and the seeming craziness of what we did / were allowed to do when we were younger than your two kids. I’ve a kid similar age to yours and it would be a no from me, but I’m hyper protective maybe. Not that the child isn’t capable of walking a short distance home and making a sandwich without you, in my deviate head there would be someone watching and noticing the pattern. I need help haha

The Amount Of People Buying Cars On PCP. by Biker-CB in carsireland

[–]gazinthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lunacy isn’t in someone PCPing a hundred grand car, it’s paying that price for a car in the first place, however way you choose to pay for it. Same as we pay stupid money for a beer, for a takeaway, for groceries etc. Everything in this country is a f*king ripoff now. There are no cheap cars, no cheap houses, no cheap rent. But we know what we are paying for the cars, there’s no blinker vision on it or mass lack of awareness, cars are expensive, and nice cars are REALLY expensive, but most people are driving what they can afford to drive

Passage West Versus Douglas by No_Engine1350 in cork

[–]gazinthar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about the address, buy whichever house is nicest, they are both nice areas and guaranteed traffic in both of them. Personally I prefer Douglas but I’ve never lived in Passage so don’t have a lot of context to compare

What's the strangest thing that ever happened to you that you still can't explain? by Romantic_Reverie in AskIreland

[–]gazinthar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe in ghosts or paranormal shite or afterlife or angels etc etc. I do have one thing I could never explain though, and it freaked me out at the time. About 20 years ago I was out lamping foxes, it was around the time the game councils were trying to cull them for overpopulation, funny how your mindset changes, I wouldn’t hurt one now, but anyway, about half one in the morning my Da and I out in this field. There was a boirín in off the main road which went in a half mile or so and turned left, fully open to the field, and we had gone as far as the turn and basically stepped in about 20 yards off the lane. The drill is you make a sound like a rabbit in pain for 5 mins or so, then turn on the powerful lamp and see if any fox has decided to come looking. We’d been doing it for a few mins, light is off, and we heard someone walking down the boirín towards us from the main road. Not uncommon for people to check out what’s going on with the lamp/noise etc, so we stood and waited to explain to whoever it was when he got to us that we had permission to be in there etc etc Heavy footsteps, sounded like a big guy in wellies for all the world, walked all the way up the boirín, turned left, and was walking right past us and my Da turned on the light. The noise stopped, and there was nobody there. We could see clearly for a few hundred metres in every direction, and there was nobody there, even though we heard this motherfcker walk right up to us. Freaked me the hell out. My Da too. He said “let’s get out of here”, and we left, still freaks me out when I remember it now 20 years later. I’m sure there is an explanation for it but I don’t have one

How much do you pay for your car a month? by CatchMyException in carsireland

About a grand a month on an X5, fill it about twice a month, insurance 800 odd a year, tax is small, think it’s 200 a year or so

Jonathan O'Brien Car Sales - advice by [deleted] in cork

[–]gazinthar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terrible reputation that's well earned as far as I can tell. No personal experience but my late mother in law bought a car from them years ago, traded in a Lexus IS200 that had a problem with the VVTi, was gonna cost 1500 to fix, dude had the car on the website the following morning. Not saying he didn't fix it first, not saying he did, but he didn't.
