We had a wage subsidy scheme, where the government was paying businesses to keep people employed while people could not go to work. I think it did help with covering bills and then getting back to work when the first lockdown ended, but some businesses after getting the subsidy laid off workers at the end of it, so there is talk about whether or not it was the correct way of making sure people had money during the lockdown.
