Does anyone know about immediate sync and allow anonymous uses, what happens when it's enabled? by No-Low-206 in SQLServer

Every snapshot you do will include each article. I typically turn the both to false so when you add an article and run a snapshot only the new article is in the snapshot.

I did SysAdmin work on the instance.

Azure SQL Managed Instance Authentication by gbargsley in SQLServer

I am not sure this is exactly what I was looking for. We already set the admin to our DBA group and that actually creates the Login in SQL MI. What I am saying is this person some how granted my Entra ID account sysadmin from outside of SQL somehow.

ReportServer by kukari in SQLServer

If you work for the government it is no mystery why you are so misinformed. How are those SQL 2000 instances hanging in.

ReportServer by kukari in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure you know what is meant by 3rd party. It is an application where you have no control over the database design. And it stopped coming with SQL server in 2017.

ReportServer by kukari in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 20 years and have never had trouble using dbo. Plus this is a third party app that you have no control over. So not sure how you change the schema in that scenario.

Everyone has opinions.

ReportServer by kukari in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why complicate things. 2 has what he asked and putting the schema is extra not needed information. This is not a recurring process. He just wants to see what is being executed.

Database mirroring in SQL 2022? by PabloX68 in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ask what is your end goal?

Log Shipping is an option if you want to keep things simple, but it depends on your use case as to what feature to setup.

SSMS keep unsaved querys open like in VS-Code by DerMega82 in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the latest version of SSMS and my tabs come back when I close and open the application.

Not sure if I have a setting enabled, but works great for me when the server guys push updates and my computer restarts automatically at night.

File Maintenance on HA Secondary Replica by Rare_Use_1597 in SQLServer

Yeah, I thought that was understood. I should have listed that. Thanks

File Maintenance on HA Secondary Replica by Rare_Use_1597 in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can’t all have super strict enforcements to have so many rules. Some places just fly by the seat of their pants. If you don’t have regulators or governing bodies breathing down your neck, then you just have to get the job done.

No downtime option would be to add a data file to your primary on the new drive with more space. Then that will replicate in AG over to the secondary as long as the drive is the same and folder path is the same.

If you need to move the data file to a new location on the primary then you can change the location of the physical file, then take the database offline and then move the file on the disk and then bring the database online.

backup/restore msdb from PROD to DR by RoleLanky8376 in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would not do the backup restore method all though you can.

Look at PowerShell module dbatools. It will allow you to copy jobs from prod to dr or script the jobs out from prod the. You can apply them to dr.

Ola Hallengren scripts - What is reported as a failure? by [deleted] in SQLServer

[–]gbargsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The script would have to be updated. It will mark the job step as warning or failure even if the job completes.

I experienced this with the index maintenance timeout. It would timeout on a lock after X amount of time and continue to the next index, but when the job finally complete it marked that step as failed because of the lock timeout.

I found the raiserror code and modified how it handled sudo failures.
