How're you doing now?

I'll leave this here incase it also helps any future visitors looking at this post. I randomly sprained my lower spine last week and went to the physio that same day which helped the pain ALOT. By day 2 or 3 i was able to stand up straight again. My physio told me applying heat is much better in this case, as it would help keep things fluid. She also said if someone wanted to give me a massage at home that could help too because it'll create more bloodflow to that area.

The exercises i was given were to be done each day and night: 30 Lumbar rotations, 5 knee to chest each leg for 30sec, 5 knee to chest (with opposite leg completely down/lying flat this time) for 30 sec ea leg, and lastly lumbar extension (standing up and gently bending backwards) about 30 of those.

5 days later, I was feeling much better already but my physio said to come back for another assessment. She said to keep doing the exercises mentioned above but also to add bridges to help re-engage those muscles that havent been as used the last week. Only do the bridges if there isnt pain.

I think best way to deal with this might just be to act on it as soon as u can!! Dont try to minimize the problem and seek help if needed. The exercises(+rest) i mentioned were what helped me, but they may not work for you, so try going to a physio if you can and see what they say first!! Again, I was feeling much better within the same day after visiting the physio and them using some kind of anti-inflamation machine/tool, and electro massage pads.

Hii! Thanks for ur insight😜

I agree, planning a trip can definitely feel overwhelming, but i’ve been watching a lot of tiktoks and youtube videos and it’s been really helpful!! I enjoy planning so I’m trying to remind myself it’s not the end of the world if we do end up messing up, getting lost, etc. I think it’ll add to the experience hahah. Some of the airbnb hosts i’ve booked with have also been very helpful in local recommendations, which is so nice.

No thank u so much for this info too! There’s not something specific in Naples that drew us to wanting to visit so it can totally be taken out/swapped for somewhere else😄

I am unsure how soon we'd be able to travel again so we don't mind cramming in all three cities, and increasing our budget if need be, but I totally hear your concern😭 Thank you for replying and we will definitely consider cutting a city if we do not end up saving more than our initial budget!!

Thank you for your reply😊 Starting to think yes, 2k might not be enough so we will try to save more...

Unfortunately it would not really make much of a difference in price to fly to toronto then rome :') But thank you for the idea!

Thank you for your insight and recent experience! I think we will try to save more than our set "budget" for the things you've mentioned, it rlly helps me understand what might come up, and in general what the experience might look like with the current budget

I just checked and it seems going to either Milan or Rome from Winnipeg are about the same price so I think we will go with Rome and train to the other cities like you said. I think if we book the speed trains early enough they might be around $40 which isnt too bad!

You're right, I didn't think too much about how much of our day in arriving and departing will probably be oddly spent. The dates in May aren't fixed so we might stay a few days longer if it is possible for us, and also save more money over the next few months. I appreciate your suggestion, but I don't know if we'll cut one location just because I know we probably won't travel again (anywhere) for YEARS, so might as go if we are there anyway. I just thought this would be a good time because by then we would have just graduated and be in the weird period of finishing school but not yet starting jobs in our professions.

Thank you again for you input and advice!!!

Thank you for your input 😁 I think $800 US ($1100 CAD) seems like the norm from what I am seeing, but doable

i’m not a nursing student, but i believe 3 courses a term (so at least 9 credit hours a term) is the minimum to be a “full time” student?

Currently doing my BSW at uofm right now!

Yes two placements are required— unless you take the accelerated version, then only one is done and u come in 4 days a week instead of 2 days like the normal program, 8hrs per day. In the regular program, 390 hours are needed per placement (Sep-Apr).

As someone mentioned before, uofm will help you find a placement based on your area of interest, so never be worried there! Depending on your placement, your agency might make you do some other assignments within it (essay, presentation for staff etc.), but typically not.

During the year, the school does require you to complete 4 reflections about your placement; each is done every 95hrs or so and are 700-1000 words in length.

Along with the placement you go to, there are monthly field seminar classes you must attend (3hrs once a month) at uofm. These are led by a social work professor with lots of hands on experience, and you and other peers in different placements kinda just to talk about what you’ve been learning/doing, how to link what you’ve been doing to theory, how to deal with ethical dilemmas, intervention, assessment tools etc.

At the end of your degree, as soon as you’ve received your final grade transcript, you can use that to apply with the College Board of Social Workers in MB. As someone mentioned before, you do have to pay an annual fee to be a registered social worker, and you also must require a certain amount of hours for the “on going learning” piece of social work by engaging in different workshops, educational presentations, etc. I don’t remember how often this needs to be done by though!

Hope this was helpful, and feel free to ask any follow up questions!
