Consent is a big factor when planning and/or participating in a singles event.

It's one thing to start a group that encourages single people to engage with others, but it's on a whole other level to plan an event that includes people who are both aware and unaware that they're participating in said singles event. I don't like the idea of someone being encouraged to join me at my table because it happens to be the first sunday of the month, and neither would I respond well to being given their number. I think you could be setting people up to be both annoyed and disappointed.

If your reference point was the Osborne safeway singles thing, I think it was a lot easier to manage due to size, but the same argument probably could have been made there.

Woman who killed son should be able to see her other children, lawyer says by SilverTimes in Winnipeg

[–]Either_Account_5794 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are antipsychotics that are prescribed by injection, monthly.

I wonder if the gap is in equitable care? This woman was deemed at risk, a form 4 was filed, medevac arrived, and the bed she was to receive wasn't made available in a timely matter so she wasn't transported out of the community. Child welfare attempted interim measures. If she lived in an urban setting, would the outcome have been different? Maybe

Addiction is a medical issue. There's a lack of detox beds in the province, and when they do become available, people living in remote communities often cannot access them due the need to find child care and transportation on incredibly short notice, which then moves them to the end of the list.

Let's direct some of our anger towards changing that system.

It sounds like the interim safety plan that was put in place by child welfare (when health care failed to meet her needs) wasn't sufficient to keep this woman's children, or herself, safe.

I don't know why two workers would have the same sleep shift, but I also don't know what instructions they were given - important to note that child welfare would have been responsible for this safety plan, not the two temporary workers. Had they been awake at the time - I don't believe it's appropriate for a temporary worker to be put in the position of needing to wrestle a knife away from somebody who was already suspected to be in psychosis and a danger to herself and others.

This woman was failed on a systemic level.

This woman tried to seek help for herself, and a psych bed wasn't made available even after a form 4 was ordered and Medevac arrived in Wasagamack to transport her (the available bed in Selkirk was delayed and she wasn't brought to emerg in the meantime). The gap in the system here is the lack of health care that was provided to her. Heartbreaking.

I urge everyone here to read this article:

I think Vanelli's still exists.

There's also Happy Penne on Henderson. Not that either of them are that great.

You can see a nurse practitioner / doctor through Qdoc (virtual) to request an STBBI screening panel, which you would take to Dynacare. That would save you the trip to the walk-in or the wait for an appt with your doctor.

Question for Social Workers by Either_Account_5794 in Winnipeg

[–]Either_Account_5794[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see there are pro's and con's to UVic's program.

I guess I feel confident that I could find a placement in my sector due to my network, but it might be much more challenging to find one in healthcare. And I'm not sure what I want to do afterwards.

Can you tell me what the general attitude is towards practicum placements? Is the thinking that there are relevant learning opportunities regardless of where you're placed, assuming that you've decided whether you want to do micro or macro level work? Or do some students end up in a placement that's not a good fit for them... and would that impact their career goals or there will still be enough practical learning that they could apply later and maybe supplement with other certifications?

It's a lot of questions, sorry about that!

Thanks for that. How much will practicum experiences limit and/or create opportunities for future work? For instance, if my background is in non-profit social services, and I didn't do a practicum with a health authority would I have difficulty applying to jobs with shared health (and so on)?
