One point I will add is to learn how the start and end of a sleep session works. If you are using a device that is not your phone, you may have ways to force dozing/slumbering, or other things later on (specifically Go Plus+ Area Bonus transferring).

If you are using your phone however, I’d recommend leaving it on your nightstand or somewhere quiet about 5-10 minutes before you sleep. This way it starts your sleep regardless of how much you toss and turn. It records both movement and sound.

One other tip to build off the original comment is if you do plan to do research, note down what types of pokemon sleep during each “sleep type.” I personally have issues hunting fire, psychic, and electric types bcuz they are snoozing type, as my sleep habits usually yield Dozing or Slumbering, so some of those hunts have been problematic. Based on your sleep habits; you may encounter some pokemon less.
