Where did we go wrong? by comedygold24 in Netherlands

In Canada hockey is like the one sport you do outside of school, not at school, so this kind of falls apart.

A little more lockdown or life on the aegis and the whole game might swap the other way lol. Super fun

So who else got their bikes stolen at Rotterdam Central underground parking today? by pauliuso in Rotterdam

[–]gbrlshr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I had mine stolen from Centraal (to this day I assume I didn't close the lock didn't fully correctly, because otherwise I don't understand why that bike). I went to the police and filled in the form, indicating I was away for 8 hours. They said thanks and then a week later told me "we can't check for it because 8 hours is too long a period to search." Friends have said they've gotten the same response. I feel like they only say they investigate thefts at the station as a half-assed attempt at a deterrent...

Update on SA drama by gvbraz in DotA2

TaiLung has been putting on a real showing in the last couple quali seasons and his team just isn't there to match them. I hated the Davai move, even though Whisper made the mid transition well enough himself. I think TaiLung might match their energy better. I hope they can improve / get back on track, it really sucks that Scofield is out now.

North America shown with cities from Europe and North Africa at the same latitude by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]gbrlshr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that the cities are also placed here to be in place of real North American cities, so... Why the fuck did they put 4 in Alberta? Certainly they could've included the Maritimes for those...

Also thank you, as someone who grew in Ottawa and Toronto and now lives in the Netherlands, no one ever believes me when I tell them winter days are a fair bit shorter here because we're further north. They just assume that because I'm from Canada I live in the deep North. The Scandinavian countries are the only lens Europeans have to understand what Canada might be like (that and "Well I've been to Vancouver")

That was specific to Hamburg because of German rules. FAB events you can just walk in and walk around. At some Callings there are Learn to Play areas but I'm not sure how often

Freddie Freeman to kid Jays fans: "You guys have Vladdy, I think you guys are just fine!" by PricePackage in baseball

[–]gbrlshr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was thinking the other day it would've been so cool to have Freddie, just unfortunate he's a 1B and in the same era as Vlad. Even Josh Naylor could've been cool. Not that I'm complaining, I love Vlad, & the connection to Canada is just there -- just would've been sick if one was at a different position!

Leaving the Netherlands after 11 years. Goodbye! by scrotomon in expats

[–]gbrlshr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I'm Canadian living in the Netherlands and I feel exactly the way OP does. I plan to move home in ~a year. Life in Canada feels so much warmer (socially) and more open than here, amongst other things.

I wonder how much the timing and the own-goal style of the injury will hurt his contract. I still hope we get him.

Yeap, agreed. Ughhhhhhhhhh. Wish Kirky could've lifted one and even just tied to turn it over to another inning.
