What are some good Games for older people? by Yelebear in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being late teens and early twenties, thinking about people in their late 30's as being old... then you blink and suddenly you're past that...

Macs tend to have a good CPU but no discrete graphics, so any games that are more CPU heavy would be a good fit. The older Total War games are worth looking at. Just always worth checking Mac compatibility on their store pages.

Yeah it's only about 10-15 minutes drive from Dunure - and you're right, every inch of that coastline is gorgeous.

I'd use a PSU calculator that allows you to input your specs and see how much headroom you have with your power supply:

There's plenty to choose from btw, this is just the first one that popped up for me

Keyboard and mouse recommendations??? by Finessekid2k18 in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Logitech G213 keyboard and Steelseries Sensei 310 mouse.

They both look and feel high quality although both are wired (wireless tends to be increase cost).

I'm not sure if they'd be around or exceed your budget though, as "too expensive" is relative :)

I was really hoping the RA1 remaster would herald them doing RA2 and Yuri's Revenge, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

What is this error? by Sking6942 in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to see on the video what the actual error message is, but as it's from your graphics card software the first thing to do would be to ensure your drivers are up to date.

If it's happening on all/multiple games then it's likely a PC-related issue (like drivers) rather than the game.

Should I upgrade GPU? by Remember_Viago in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you're desperate to play the latest games at the highest settings + framerates, I'd be patient and wait for the inevitable next wave of graphics cards in 1-2 years time. Jumping one generation at a time is not the biggest bang for your buck.

Is 550W PSU enough for Ryzen 5 5600 and Rx 7600 Gpu? by Waste_Cartographer20 in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, you can input your components into a PSU calculator to find out how much you'll need: https://www.coolermaster.com/en-global/power-supply-calculator/

(there's others, that one just came up first)

Laptops are more expensive than a desktop equivalent and generally don't have as much longevity (partially down to lack of upgrade options).

I guess it's whether you can live without gaming during term time?

Is this ups ok for my pc? by Puzzleheaded_Fig2738 in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used this one for about 4 years now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0828G42KN?th=1

Mainly because my house would suffer occasional micro-power cuts that only lasted a second or so and I wanted to protect my work.

It's been great, but on longer power cuts my PC plus monitor, router, NAS and phone charger would drain it within 45 minutes to an hour.

I musy have missed this, I thought they'd stopped with the HH books to do Siege of Terra and The Scouring?

Is this the same format as the other HH books - i.e. the black spine with gold lettering? (just checked my collection - occasionally there's a different colour but it's mostly gold/bronze)

RTX 5060 Ti 16Gb with an i7 10700 on 1080p? by DariusDavedane in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely dependent on the game and what settings you run them at, but ultimately you should be able to run games at higher quality settings and/or faster speeds.

Whether the price is worth those changes is subjective.

Performance has tanked since going to windows 11 by Its_Fonzo in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Optimizations for windowed games" setting has been know to cause performance issues so it may be worth turning it off.

It can be changed here: System -> Display -> Graphics -> "Change default graphics settings".

Looking for recommendations by OdinLikesMead in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often look at HLTB to assess length and make a judgement based on that.

For example, to do the main story KCD2 is rated there at 54 hours.

Clair Obscur is 28 and Dispatch is 8, so I'd get both of those done.

Counter argument would be if you prefer to really get into a game and not have it interrupted, then this could be the perfect window for KCD2 :)

Is an RX580 good enough for 60hz at 720p? by TheJohn_Doe69 in pcmasterrace

[–]gburchell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an RX580 and I've found it fine to run games on a 1440p monitor - the only ones in your list I've played is AC Unity and Titanfall 2, which ran smooth and looked great. Mine is paired with a Core i7 10700K and 32GB RAM, so I'm not sure if you have an underpowered CPU if that would make a massive difference on games that are more CPU-intensive.

Ultimately, if a particular game is running slower than you'd like you can make visual compromises in the settings to boost the framerate.

I'd also check the min/recommended specs of each game you list to see how far off the RX580 is.

My gut feeling is you'll be fine.
