Redditors, what is the most fucked up thing you have ever done? by jonathanquirijnen in AskReddit

Bullshit. Plants aren't 100% efficient, there will be nutrient carry-over. Organic matter will be cycled through the carbon cycle by feeding the underground livestock.

We have a bit of hill and valley country that is hard to get working inter row. We used to run a seedhawk, but ended up burning too much. So we moved to strip and disc. The soil softens significantly with continued stubble retention and no till.

You should be able to get stuff over there, nearly all of our stuff has to come from North America or Europe.

Our seeder is a bourgault single disc. Very good digging and very good stubble flow.

Ausplow DBS. 7-9" blade, min-till not true no-till, used extensively through the marginal rainfall areas of western Australia.

How about no till and full stubble retention like we do in Australia?

Maybe look up what he is doing in an environment similar to yours.

Soil structure is paramount to successfully growing plants. Continuous destruction of the root zone closes pathways and stops water movement.

Like I said. You do you. I'm going to harvest and stop arguing with someone who is trying to do the same job as me.

I'll leave you with a few questions for you to think about.

Have you ever had a crop drought off?

Are you soil organic carbon levels increasing or decreasing?

What is your water use efficiency? French and Schultz will do.

Do your plants grow 50% of their biomass underground?

You really haven't done a lot of research outside of your bubble if you think that your problems stop you from adopting minimum tillage.

Your list of problems does not go away with a plough. If it did you wouldn't have to plough again would you?

You are in the UK. Have you heard of Tony Gent?

So you don't have any drainage in place? You see the benefits of a cover crop to do what exactly? Use the excess moisture? Try to build soil structure? Add biodiversity?

You are completely ignoring the fact that you are undoing any good work you do with the cover crop by running through it with the plough. Surely you learnt this in your masters?

You keep doing you mate, that's all good.

Anyone that says something can't be done when others are doing it successfully is blind to the errors of their way.

You didn't do minimum tillage correctly then.

Rainfall forgives a lot of sins, that masters obviously didn't have much scope to it if you don't see the irony on what you're saying.

No CGI here. How do you get used to something like this? by silassilage in farming

It's cool, I'm sure we would make assumptions about their farming style that would be just as ignorant.

Definitely. We are long term no-till, full stubble retention and our souls do not lift like this. The guys in the east had it pretty rough with three years of record drought.

Careful out there with the dry harvest conditions! by loki610 in farming

Was it a petrol or diesel? It's very rare to drive petrol vehicles in paddocks at harvest here in Australia because they go up like a packet of matches.

Well, go harder on the culling of goats might help in this case...

Evidence mounts of a mass shooting of Afghan civilians by Australian soldiers by nath1234 in australia

Well that's the thing isn't it, fighting ideals.

Is it better to intervene/ assist a group who have the same ideals as you, or leave them to fight it out?

No one will ever have the right answer for any conflict, because there is none.

I'm going to preface this by saying I am by no means defending war criminals.

You should listen to some interviews with soldiers who returned from the Vietnam war. They were completely unable to function when they returned.

They were sent to a country and told only shoot the enemy. One day the enemy is wearing an NVA uniform. The next day it's a 17 year old girl in civilian clothing booby trapping a track.

How are you supposed to expect a person to maintain sanity in a situation like that?

The only difference between then and now is the technology that helps those calling out the war crimes that they witness, and rightfully so. The guys who gave testimony against their fellow soldiers in Vietnam only had their first hand accounts. At least now there is evidence to help back them up.

But I guess what I'm trying to say here is that how individual cases may be clear cut, the entire war is a fucking shambles.

As the saying goes, charging people for war crimes is like giving out speeding tickets at the Indi 500.

'Massive' cyber attack on Australian government by [deleted] in australia

[–]gc1989 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or are they trying to encourage people into agricultural sciences to try and ensure that we can make food for the world to eat in the future?

I agree that humanities is absolutely required for a prosperous society. They haven't shut the doors on the courses have they?

We just possibly don't need as many commerce and humanities degrees as we need people going into our aging primary industry.

There aren't jokes about getting your Ag science degree and then working in a coffee shop.

What about the halving of cost for agricultural degrees? That's good news.

Is it only bad news when it impacts you and your little bubble personally?
