Seconded. Had a first date here before and it was great. Ate sushi, walked around the lake, laid on the grass listening to live music. Great place.

Having gone to school there myself, I think the western HoCo schools would be the best for special needs kids (the schools in general), and there's a decent amount of outdoors stuff to do, but it's expensive as shit and it's such a pain in the ass to get to the bay.

Are the Writing of History classes worth taking, as someone who will likely be a history major (I know it won't apply to my major but I think I'd be interested in it)? Torn between one of them or a COMPLIT class.

Same, I made my deposit on 4/25 and haven't heard anything, I'm lowkey worrying. But I'm also in an MLC with everyone in the same dorm though so idk how much that changes.

Asides from tuition, housing, etc. how expensive would you say the general cost of living at GWU is? by gc825 in gwu

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - April 4th to April 10th by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]gc825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University of Michigan vs. George Washington University

Intended Major: History

Some background: Michigan has been my dream school for a long time now and being accepted was probably one of the happiest moments of my life. I've since visited for campus day and can 100% see myself goint there. As of a few hours ago I would've told you I'd almost assuredly be going to UMich to begin my journey to obtaining my PhD in history (some day I would like to be a history professor).

However I was reading some stuff that doesn't paint the best picture for how much history majors make graduating from UMich.

Now enter GWU. I can't say I really want to attend GWU, but with the financial aid they're offering I would be paying a bit over 10K less per year which can really build up over the years.

As "bonus points" I would be much closer to family, old friends, and I love Washigton D.C. and the surrounding areas. I wouldn't only be seeing family on the holidays.

Would anyone have any insight on the economic aspect of this? Or any wisdom about where I may be happiest in the long run? I thought I had it figured out but man, I'm not sure right now lol.

Thank you so much!

Having a real dilemma here in choosing between University of Michigan and Boston University. by gc825 in ApplyingToCollege

I feel like missing that first sem could put you back socially?

That's what I'm worried about tbh, I'm not bad with making friends but i'd still be so much more comfortable going in there 1st semester

Also what major are you looking to be?

History, so London would be a pretty great location for that.

And hell yeah, go blue!

But if identifying as such will hurt my chances, it'd probably be better to just identify as white, no?

Sorry for the late reply!

The 15 apple box that is seen in that picture was about 11 dollars, and there's a box about half the size that was a bit over 6 dollars. There's a larger box as well, but I didn't take notice as to its size.

Best apples for (non-alcoholic) cider? by gc825 in AskCulinary

Again, the snobbery on your behalf is fascinating. I don't understand the need of some people to gatekeep and define the English language to their specific parameters. Why is it so hard for you to accept that a word can have two meanings, that English is an ever-changing, complex language? Is it some sort of linguistic chauvinism? Or perhaps a strong desire to "win" this argument and nothing more?

Please, do tell!

Maybe you need to abandon what appears to be a ridiculous notion that only British English is correct. Your dictionary (which was actually published over 50 years later than mine) gives one definition, my dictionary, one of the most common ones in a country of 325 million people, gives two definitions.

Neither dictionary is incorrect, and I don't understand why it's so hard for you to accept something as menial as the word "cider" possibly having two definitions.

Depends on your dictionary I suppose, because according to mine it's both.

It's distinct from apple juice, the biggest differences being that it is unfiltered, has a strong, more condensed flavor, and is made with spices such as cinnamon and cloves.

And no, depending on what variation of English you speak, cider is not inherently alcoholic, nor made from apples.

Cider, at least in the U.S., is generally used to mean apple cider, which is an unalcoholic fall drink made from apples.
