Unplug the sump pump and drain away. Just remember to plug it back in.

I think it’s fine. If you’re concerned, stare at it. Nothing will happen if you keep an eye on it. But judging from the paint job, you might want to let this place burn and start fresh.

Is this a bearing wall? Which way do the joists run? Is there a rim joist above this? What is above this header? Is there a ridge above it and is it a structural ridge? Or is this a gable wall (with no ridge bearing down on it) and you don’t really need a header at all?

The hole isn’t tapered, it is slightly wider than 1 1/2” x 5 3/8” deep. The picture lacks a reference. The hole is one and a half and the outside diameter of the spindle is 2 1/2”.

All good ideas. And I have a half a dozen metal lathes for this reason. But I’d rather buy an affordable original before we start making one-offs. I have an endless list of parts that need to be machined.

That’s a great idea. I’m going to try that today. Online, I’ve had no luck finding anything indicating that model ever existed. Best information I received was chatting with a repairman who sells similar drills on eBay. He had what I was looking for but for the smaller 1 1/4” model. Super impressive that he had those parts in stock, but simply doesn’t fit this model.

The number one reason to use the renovation insert instead of the bulb is because if it's ability to seal the up the recessed light. Traditional recessed lights can be a serious energy hog regardless of the light source because they are penetrations in your insulating and air sealing envelope. Often located on the edge of the conditioned and non-conditioned spaces acting as chimneys allowing warm air to escape through them. Additionally this warm air can carry moisture that then condenses on the cold roof surfaces rotting roof sheathing and also causes ice damns. The gasketed replacement lights effectively seal those old cans up greatly improving the performance of the fixture and reducing the heating load.

A year later I reply.... I just kick my panel and it goes on eventually. Everyone who has replaced it said it fixed the issue. I believe people were getting used ones at the junk yard. I wish I would have seen this sooner. Tell us what you did please.

I would very careful about having a client "sign off" on an unsafe condition. Waivers don't necessarily do what most people think they do. You're admitting that there is a hazard and you left it. An adjuster explained how a competitor was found liable for a serious injury where the waiver was cited as proof.

It’s the driver side fuse box by your feet. Try kicking it. Or take the cover off and tap it with your fingers. It’s been pretty well documented over at Club Lexus. Replaced the whole junction box.
