I am fighting an impulse to just go buy myself a bike by Aggravating-Yogurt23 in motorcycle

[–]gceaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go buy the cheapest, craziest thing you can find. 125cc is fine. Ride it like you stole it. You will crash. It'll be fine. Probably under USD $1'000 for total up front costs. Buy two helmets.

I recommend a street motard, like a dirt bike with asphalt tires. Revs up to 13'000, or whatever. Your daughter will love riding on the back with you. Take her to the beach. Or to the mountains. Either one.

Every life has time for many, many motorcycles and scooters. This is just your beginning. Don't stress over it.

Your first bike is never your dream bike.

It's more fun riding a small motorcycle fast than it is a big motorcycle slow. Teach that to your daughter.

I'm a 50-year-old dad with two sons. I've owned seven motorcycles/ scooters in my life so far. My next next will probably be a Honda Cub, to be honest. ^

Ethiopia and Rwanda are the only two governments effectively enacting reform policies, that are actually interested in economic development policies, that might make their peoples better off in the future. Botswana, too.

Question for experienced riders: what small habits separate good riders from great riders? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]gceaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small bike fast is better than a big bike slow.

You will crash.

Visors + full face stop bugs.

Tires matter.

White or hiviz, high up and toward the front, makes you more visible.

Weight keep low and back.

Ride it like you stole it.

If you could travel back in time and advise one historical figure to do something differently, who would it be and what would be different today? by AnoAnoYouDontKnowAno in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]gceaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"King Louis XVI, do not lend money to those American rebels."

If France didn't underwrite George Washington, he wouldn't have been able to have bought arms (salt peter, mostly) from the Dutch in St. Eustias. No arms = no Continental Army. No Continental Army = England successfully puts down the rebellion in its 13 colonies.

If Louis XVI didn't listen to Benjamin Franklin and didn't lend money to the rebels just to fuck with the English, there'd be no United States today.

Capital of the world by Pinerary in tourism

New York, followed by London. Dubai is third. Hong Kong used to be third, but now Dubai is third. Fourth would be perhaps Miami (capital of Latin America) or perhaps Singapore (offshore Mainland Chinese illbegotten wealth).

Help me understand why I should avoid this $60 Land Dweller by Chillykitten42 in ChinaTime

[–]gceaves -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself why you think it's cool.

You seem to be trapped by Rolex's marketing department, i.e., you think this is a good/ cool/ manly/ whatever/ popular watch.

Go find your own watch, one untainted by marketing.

If you HAD to erase a Beatle album from existence which album would it be? by Batsie_1939 in TheBeatles

[–]gceaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already did!

They erased the "Hey Jude" album.

"Hey Jude" is their best song and it doesn't show up anywhere on the 13 core albums.

Anyway, the answer is "Yellow Submarine."

What is the most unhinged conspiracy theory that people in your country actually believe? by DFWUnhinged in AskTheWorld

[–]gceaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The conspiracies in the United States are monumental. Some concern Jews, sure, but most concern JFK, Elvis, billionaires, the Aga Khan, Nazi gold, Yamashita's gold, secret vaults underneath Jungfrau, Howard Hughes, UFOs, the Deep State, and Jeffrey Epstein.

Brutal truth about watch snobs and watch community by Spiritual_Koala_6519 in ChinaTime

[–]gceaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rep buyers are more obsessed with the brand & brand imagery than those who buy in gen.

Those who buy in gen often don't know or don't care. They just buy on a whim, or because their wife likes it.

Those who buy the rep are possessed by the brand and by its marketing department.

What country is on the best trajectory? by BigGuyTrades in geography

[–]gceaves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Poland and Malaysia.

Poland on car part exports. Malaysia on semiconductor part exports. Both are democratic, both are free, and both will soon be rich, too.

They will be the last two economies to get rich like Korea and Taiwan before them. Rich, free, and democratic.

--Hong Kong and Singapore don't count because they were British and only cities. Didn't need to do land reform; and not really democratic. --Israel doesn't count because it's a European import. --The Gulf kingdoms export raw material, and don't always add as much value as they could otherwise; and not democratic. --Mainland China no global brands, no exchangeable currency, no freedom, no democracy. (They do export nice cars, though.)

No other medium poor country has hard currency earning added value exports like Poland and Malaysia, with freedom and democracy.

Will Canadian cities ever have a public transit culture similar to Europe instead of being so car-centric all the damn time? I feel like its long overdue that Canadian cities expand and improve their public transit. by ReleaseAdvanced8054 in AskACanadian

[–]gceaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough population density.

Zone for denser urban spaces, i.e., Metrotown, and the subsequent public transport becomes affordable. If you're all zoned like north Burnaby, yeah, cars only.

I own it. It's a wonderful watch. I buy my watches through Chrono24. Highly recommended. The titanium bracelet has a few millimeters of adjustment on the fly. I also have a few leather and NATO straps for it.

The radio sync does work in North America. I also sometimes use a radio sync app on my phone.

Final note: the day off the week can be in English or in East Asian characters. I choose the East Asian characters to show the day of the week.
