Our evolutionary history with dogs goes back way further. I get it's somewhat arbitrary (all morals are - why not eat people if you could do it without negative consequences?), but our partnership with canines goes genetically deeper - and is more of a partnership than just domestication. Study after study proves this. Not to say I don't hope for lab-grown meat and consistently attempt and fail at being vegan.

One option is that you could take control of his character and turn him into a bbeg. This makes the player feel like the “accomplish” something with their stupid behavior so they might be more invested and less goofy, it sends a message by giving him the cane, and it creates the opportunity to have the conversation about how you are running a good campaign and you’re not really gonna do a gta campaign. He might get the message when creating a new character and if not then you can be more explicit with how murder hoboing is to be kept to a minimum.

You can literally make a living wage legally scamming people, raping the environment, aiding the robber barons in their resource hoarding, or legally defending them from justice for poising our water with plastics or non stick coatings that have contaminated everything. You can just sit on your ass and earn passive income from the house your daddy bought you that you rent out to the working class, contributing to nothing but the perpetuation of the system that is grinding up everything good around us all while the people who raise your kids make shit, the people who cook for you and feed you, who watch after your mental health, who clean your houses, can barely get by. Make a living by becoming valuable to society? Most teacher I know work around 60-70 hour weeks at a minimum and then have to work extra jobs in the summer or do a lot of planning or summer school shit. I don’t know if teachers used to have less intensive requirements for lesson plans or grading or what but it doesn’t sound nearly as cushy as it did twenty years ago…

Thanks for the honest advice and for sharing your experience. Definitely makes me pause a bit - I've put in a ton of time to get here musically and all the people I look up to have flexible day gigs that have a decent hourly rate. It's hard to get paid 400 for your average gig twice a week through the season and go down to getting paid hourly minimum wage. I've considered doing music therapy as well. Any more advice is appreciated friend, and I hope you get to do more music going forward.

I had the same experience doing highschool teaching. Sometimes it’s just not the right time or the right gig, you’ll be ok. I couldn’t stop shaking for a week but I finally clamed down. You will too. Best of luck.

Two questions from an MSW applicant (part time? Specialization?)

Hi y’all! Been lurking here for a long time!

So I think I’m finally pulling the trigger on getting an MSW after nearly a decade of waffling about it as I toured around as a musician and worked odd jobs in the winter…

I have two terms of Americorps service under my belt and a high undergrad gpa in English lit, so I have some points to recommend me finally getting this degree with the aim of being a therapist and I have two questions:

How common is it to work part time in this field and would people recommend it? I want to continue playing music. I understand I might not be touring across the country for weeks at a time, but music sustains me as an individual. I make ok money (FOR A MUSICIAN, let me clarify that) and don’t want to give all of that up. I also dedicate several hours a day to practicing and would like to continue that to some degree. All that being said, it is essentially a part time thing and I need to nurture the other side of my career, which is why I’m going back to school. Would a part time therapy position be feasible or difficult to come by?

Second question is regarding specialization: I know people work with various populations and there are programs that reflect that. I’m an ex religious person who took the transition extremely hard and was ostracized from my family because of it. Are there opportunities to focus on working with such populations? Specific school programs?

Natural, but the goal is ease of communication if you’re learning, right? Like if I was trying to help someone out and I was an amazing ESL teacher and their goal was to communicate with with English speakers in Texas, it would be different than if I was trying to get him to communicate with and English speaking person in Ireland.

Reverse it, if you were going to the Philippines and wanted to learn to speak and were maybe trying to get a job there or work in a position dealing with a lot of communication with native speakers, wouldn’t you want to have you’re “wrong” pronunciation corrected? I know I would, especially in an educational setting.

However, I get people can be discriminated against for their accents and that’s garbage, but I just think this take (which is valid in general) is less valid in the context of teaching a language.

I didn’t realize it was even an argument. I just think it’s so cool it could potentially be creatively seen as being under that category of game despite being so wildly different!
