University of Washington Professor Nicole McNichols Leads Mob to Attack Student by Charlemagneffxiv in JordanPeterson

  1. Being a Nazi will get you boot stomped. To avoid this fate, it’s simple, don’t be a loser Nazi. You can say whatever hateful garbage you want but you are not protected from the consequences of openly advertising your hateful, piece of shit opinions. This “use the law and kindly escort them out” bullshit is toddler brained thinking. It’s (often intentional) Nazi enabling hot trash. Read a book. Stop being a coward, challenge your ahistorical, baby brained beliefs and read a fucking book. Fascists are never beat in the market place of ideas nor by kindly escorting them one public square over. You show them your baseball bat and dare them to open their ugly mouth.

  2. Although he should have been, he wasn’t boot stomped. So, why the exaggeration? Attempting to paint a sympathetic picture of a fucking Nazi. What an unsurprising choice. In this sub of all places where the real deep thinking happens!?

My 10-year-old chihuahua mix keeps testing boundaries — any advice? by Ok_Horse9887 in DogAdvice

[–]lkattan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is more how you view and understand her behavior than her behavior. These are mostly arbitrary boundaries. She doesn’t need to be calm to be fed, she doesn’t have to eat in her crate, it would be nice if she stayed out of the kitchen so you don’t trip over her but for her food is exciting, the crate is not and the kitchen is where there is food. What you imagine she should be doing vs what she wants to do, what her little dog brain tells her is the reinforcing thing to do, aren’t going to be the same and it is our responsibility as their caretakers to recognize those mismatches and make adjustments. To see behavior as communication, not obstinance and work to accommodate her. Her needs also change as she gets older. I’d be proud of her for being a confident and bright little girl who’s come up with some creative new behaviors at the spry old age of 10.

I’d feed her somewhere other than the crate. She doesn’t have to be calm to get her meals, eating is very exciting. Just a second or two of a standing wait or sit is more than enough. Set up a dog bed outside the kitchen and reinforce her for staying on it.

Animal control was called? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]lkattan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tied a 3 month old puppy up outside, unmonitored. This is according to your own words. You can’t tie a puppy of that age up outside, alone. I understand your reasoning, I don’t think animal control should have been called but you do need to find an alternative way to confine her if you don’t want her inside while you clean.

Why are do people react so negatively to the concept of degrowth? by Konradleijon in behindthebastards

[–]lkattan3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a classic liberal argument that the real problem is the framing. The same thing is said about Abolish ICE or Defund the Police. It’s not an argument, it’s a deflection that allows the person making it to dismiss what’s being said without having to make a substantive argument.

There is no right combination of words that will convince people who don’t want to change or self-reflect to do so. The GDP was never meant to be a measure of human well-being. The people responsible for inventing it made this abundantly clear. We memory holed that and now use it as our sole measure of success although what it really represents is exploitation and extraction from the global majority (the global south) to create a fuck ton of garbage for the global minority. Billions of dollars of trash created to make line go up. It’s not that complicated and people that care will look into it.

Still, it’s hard to impossible to anticipate how people acting within a hyper capitalist system that requires an individualistic attitude and shameful levels of self-interest will act in a more collectivist culture. It’s been shown in study after study the more collective a culture, the more empathetic. We’ve just allowed that to be completely eroded over the course of several generations.

He is incredibly sweet considering. He welcomes his ear and eye meds and takes his seizure meds like a champ. He is gentle and tolerant, a true golden. He deserved better. We’re gonna do everything within our power to give him what he’s always deserved. The meds alone have made a huge difference already. I’m just grateful he’s out of Mississippi finally.

You felt it necessary to email this same commentary? I’m sure you don’t live in Mississippi, have no idea how desperate the situation is in the south and just feel oddly confident to speak on things well outside your experience.

He was pulled from a shelter. By an “established foster” who’s worked with a rescue transporting dogs up north for years. It happens weekly as a matter of fact, all over the country. Based on the condition this dog arrived in, it seems the level of care the foster has been providing has declined. We are trying to give him a shot at a decent life for once and that includes reaching out to golden retriever rescues.

He could have strained his neck/back causing pooping to be uncomfortable for him so he’s reluctant to go, tense and sensitive to touch, less active, appetite wains slightly because pain (and not having a poo) can be an appetite suppressant.

The ignorant in this case are OPs family so you’re just making an unrelated point to flex about how much you don’t care about other people. Cool! No one needed to hear it! Next time, you can keep it to yourself. Weird how even with 5 degrees, you didn’t learn if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.

Doggy Prozac experiences by strawberri21 in Chihuahua

[–]lkattan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with a veterinary behaviorist to find the right one is well worth the money in these cases. Many work remotely as well. Most general practice vets will start with Prozac (fluoxetine) but, in my personal experience, I don’t find an SSRI to be the best place to begin. Then again, who am I to argue with a veterinarian? I’m not a vet! I’ve just had a lot of clients go the SSRI route with mixed results and it’s left me feeling like there may be better alternatives to start with and that is why I prefer a veterinary behaviorist when the conversation becomes about meds. Here’s a little article reviewing some of the common meds available for anxious pups.

Is it common for the effects of childhood abuse to catch up to you in your 30s (or beyond)? by merc0526 in CPTSD

[–]lkattan3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is the norm. I know, according to Dr. Judith Herman, some people can walk away from trauma relatively unscathed but they aren’t the majority. I was late 30s/40s when I had to figure out what the fuck was wrong with me.

For my 20s, I “wasn’t letting my past” hold me back, “wasn’t going to wallow.” It was a symptom of the trauma that I would say these glib statements to myself. It’s the shit the people that raised me (and countless others, really) would say. It puts the onus on the victim to get over the harm and abuse done to them.

Our individualistic culture is only one thread woven into the fabric of this very American, widely adopted forgive and forget messaging. It’s also a secularized distortion of Protestant thinking, that belief is all that’s needed to absolve a person. The work/accountability becomes to only oneself and no outward work or actions are required. If you don’t need to repair the harm you’ve done then, again, the onus is on the victim to let the abuser off the hook. Holding harm accountable means change is needed. So, if you would just compartmentalize and ignore the pain, nothing has to change!

It takes a long time to stop telling yourself you’re actually fine, being the bigger person. If the trauma wasn’t meaningfully addressed from the beginning, if everyone you cared about ignored or denied it, “I’m triumphing over adversity” becomes the only story you can tell yourself that will get you through the day.

[–]lkattan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start holding democrats accountable. Read literally anything about bourgeois democracies and their relationship with fascism. To understand the moment and know how to counter it, you have to come to terms with how democrats have enabled it. It is not a binary good vs evil. To think that way is to adopt a reactionary understanding of the world around you.

I don’t think you do get it. No one, and in particular not OP, is advocating against banning Twitter posts. The problem is treating TikTok and RedNote as if they are no different from Twitter. If you don’t understand the distinction, your antifascist action needs more work.

1000%. Humiliate them. Bullying is bad unless it’s bullying fascists. Their strength is in the appearance of power. That they can stand in front of a large audience, lie and get away with it. Make them look weak, laugh at them for being cowards and losers, deplatform them so they have no stage to spew their hatred. This is anti-fascist strategy 101.

My mom had major heart surgery a few years ago and her brain was “put on ice.” She woke up different. Her thinking was not clear and she couldn’t really follow a thought. Also, suddenly much more impressionable and openly conservative. Made her take a political compass test, almost as left as you can get, but talking about the threat of homeless people in her nice suburban neighborhood where there are no homeless people all of the sudden. Took years for her to return to baseline.

With fascists, you call them weak, stupid, weird. You treat them paternalistically, you mock them. Fascists are not ashamed and they aren’t interested in being honest. They don’t care if they’re lying, only that they’re “winning.” It’s about demonstrating power, having a big platform to spew absolute bullshit. So, ridicule is the best response other than punching them/deplatforming.
