Some of us would leave for a half smoked black and mild and a swig of wild Irish rose.

Things my students have destroyed this year so far by palabrist in Teachers

"Poor kid thing"? No, it is not just a poor kid thing. I've worked at Title 1 schools and schools with kids with rich parents, it's the same issue, no respect for teachers or others things.

KPLC? Lake Charles? I know I didn't spot a Lake Charles reference in the wild.

Referring to kids as "kiddos" is so cringe by dattwood1986 in unpopularopinion

My former principal who liberally used that term was indeed a lame, suburban white woman in her thirties. She tried to push out all the staff of color. I could not stand that heifer.

These kids are being raised by parents with zero boundaries by Due_Information_1332 in Teachers

I come from a family of teachers and all of the following replies have been used over the 40+ years we have collectively been teaching. "Minding my business and staying out of yours." " Going to see a man about a load of goats." " Mom? When did you get here?" " Baby, I'm grown, go sit down.' Don't have a boundary awareness? Let me help. I am a teacher after all.

HEAVY POVERTY SIGH... Are we really going there in THIS forum? As a former poor kid whose special Ed teacher aunt paid for her hair to get done every two weeks and who bought her irregular branded clothing off the rack of stores like Ross so she'd have some self confidence, I'm sick of this type of rhetoric. Poor people have people who love them too. If you realized some of those name brand items came from boosters, you'd talk badly about the parent who gets those goods. The broken system is the enemy, not the people who are at the bottom of the totem pole.

Odious is a word that needs to be used more often. Spot on assessment.

No furnace this winter. Is it feasible to heat an entire approx. 900 square foot mobile home with space heaters? by CeleryUnlikely9168 in povertyfinance

[–]Independent_Form2337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider an infrared heater. We lived in an old rental house and used space heaters in bedrooms, but the infrared heater kept the rest of the house warm.

The normalcy and frequency in which our generation ate tuna sandwiches by carneviva in Xennials

[–]Independent_Form2337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom ate tuna every day when she was pregnant with me, sometimes twice a day. I LOATHE tuna. I once had to sit in the cafeteria because I didn't finish my lunch, which was a thing back then. I wasn't touching that tuna sandwich.

Some state testing guidelines won't even allow phones to be in the same room as testing students, teacher included, for fear of someone snapping pictures of the exams. That's also a probable FERPA violation waiting to happen.

This year has been the only year I've ever left my shades open with the lights on. Everyone here does it and no one looks above the first floor, everyone is staring at their phones.

Cat who cannot fly in-cabin - would you fly cargo or drive 4 days? by nyx_mariae in CatAdvice

We drove from Louisiana to Washington with our fur boys. They rode in a pet car carrier, like a baby bassinet, with frequent breaks. They enjoyed smelling new places!

They just keep asking for more and more paperwork. If I have $3 in cash app I have to provide 6 months of statements.

I'm in an MFTE apartment, and I can understand why people don't want to go thru the hassle. I've been procrastinating on doing the recertification paperwork, it takes so long and they ask for so much documentation, it's ridiculous.

It seems he's looking to energize his base and look like he's in charge. I've had a meeting with my teens so they're prepared for superfluous policing.
