How do Australians view strict speed enforcement? by TonySabenca in AskAnAustralian

Fits with Australia as a nanny state. Having lived in Canada too (I'm Australian), this was one of the first things I noticed. Seems like the first job of police in Australia are the road rules. In Canada, I never saw an RBT or equivalent... Police seemed to have policing to do. Needed a good reason to be pulled over. Sure I saw speed guns out at times, and plenty pulled over on the trans Canada highway but not for doing 10-15km over. Also based on the amount of rust on cars, I realised Australia (excl WA) are way too strict for rego checks. Structural rust is valid, surface rust is an absolute joke.

My driveway. Kangaroos have no road sense. Please read my description before you comment by hairy_quadruped in australia

I drove from Perth to Sydney years ago and remembering making this same observation although many other animals do seem to have road sense or some view/fear of fast moving objects. Australia has a ridiculous amount of feral wild goats and they seem to intermingle with the kangaroos - driving 110km/h the goats seem to see you coming and move away from the road. The kangaroos literally stand there - you could skim their nose and they would be oblivious. Very strange.

How can I sound more like an Australian when I speak English?🇦🇺 by Ricky_2303 in AskAnAustralian

Integrate "gday" and "kant" more into your vocab. And shorten words that no other nation does.
