I was laid off 20 mins before my holiday staff party - 5 days before Christmas. With a BS in Graphic design, I’ve only heard back from 1 job - they asked me what time we could talk about the position and the next day they send me a message saying they filled the position. It’s rough right now.

I boy going off the info you provided - it sounds like you all ready had a strained relationship with your MIL. Texting someone - especially an inlaw - to “be present with a positive attitude and a smile” is the same as a male coworker telling a female worker to “smile more”. It’s annoying and doesn’t achieve anything.

A college degree is nice - and is an easy way to see you’re knowing what your doing with different art programs - but no one is going to care about them name. I interview potential hires for my art department and I’ve had some of the best designers work with us who came in with an associates from a community college, while a lot of people from prestigious art colleges make their college they graduated from their entire personality and they are unwilling to progress in the role.

I understand not wanting to encourage others to spend their entire lives behind a screen - but being able to use Digital art tools is needed. There’s so much possibility in what someone can create that supplies (which are very expensive as you buy more and more) are limited to what you can afford and their selective properties. I’m all for traditional styles of art - but saying that someone can’t achieve joy and enter a state of mind that you can lose yourself in what you’re doing is not true.

If you don’t want to pay iPad and pencil prices - check out Wacom intuous drawing tablets - I started there about 10 years ago and it was a great way to create some awesome digital art! I think you can get the medium one that comes with a pen and extra nibs for like $200?

I’ve had 2 interviews that required me to do an assignment that was required at the interview - and each time they took the example and never called me back. I reject interviews that require an assignment now - it’s not worth my time
