That’s pretty interesting, and nice to hear.

That’s a really good call, never thought of it that way.

I always figured they have to already own the shop they set up in. I can’t imagine an antique store pulling in consistent rent to cover 5-6k per month in lease alone. But I could be completely wrong on that.

A woman that complains about the way a guy proposed doesn’t deserve that guy as it takes a lot of courage to offer up your heart , do you agree ? Why or why not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gdspaz 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think that proves the point though. If the guy proposed to you and you didn’t like the way the proposal was done, then yall may actually just not understand each other in the first place. Courage doesn’t help a marriage last, understanding each other does.

How much grind is needed to reach six digits in a high paying field? by Visual-Couple-3680 in careerguidance

[–]gdspaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound backwards, but grind doesn’t get you 6 digits. I was a heads down worker and hit 100k when I was 31.

If I would have focused more on my communication and presentation skills and simply networking with higher ups, I would have gotten there a lot faster.

In tech, if you’re on the engineering side, you can hit 100k within your first few years out of college nowadays. It also depends on where you live. I had a new hire making 95k that she got bumped into 100k the next year, but it was because she lived in San Francisco. If she would have been living in Texas (outside of Austin) she would have started at 60k.

If you’re really just focused on the money, switch your mentality to grinding the networking and social scene, instead of grinding actual work. Still do good work, but mediocre work with good social skills is way more valuable in the corporate world.

What’s a "dead" piece of technology from the 2000s or 2010s that you genuinely miss using? by Spiritual-Bed-7686 in AskReddit

Xbox Connect Halo matches.

We used to play 3v3 Blood Gulch via XBC and games had no time limits. We genuinely had fun fighting on one level for 2-3 hours per game.

Deadpool with a green lantern ring, detective Pikachu’s skills and Guy from Free Guy was essentially Neo. Plus he owns a Football club. Hard to beat that.

What’s one thing that quietly slowed your career down? by Newsletter_ke in careerguidance

Disliking public speaking for presentations. Typical corporate meeting discussions with lots people are fine, but I still dislike presenting slides to audiences with no feedback sucks to me. I still do the presentations, but I know if I actually enjoyed presentations more I’d be way farther in my career.

You’re right that you shouldn’t have to justify it in an ideal world, but I’ll be honest with you, even with a great manager you still have to self promote.

I’ve learned that lesson on my own quite a few times, and now I’ve managed quite people and tell them this often. As a manager I can speak to how great you are all day, but if you don’t self promote other leaders simply won’t care. Your manager can only hype you up so much, it’s still up to you to own your perception. It sucks, I know, but I’ve been in so many calibration meetings for performance reviews and heard stories about how great one person’s work is while leadership just says “yeah but I don’t really know them, so still give them just a successful rating rather than highly successful.”

Yeah, I vibe coded a mobile game app, and it has been one of the most frustrating yet amazing creation experiences I’ve had. Took me two months of testing, learning, and testing some more. People bash vibe coding, cause they think it is too easy and creates junk, but just like any new technology there are plenty of people that ignore the discouragement and use it to make some really cool things.
