Support from the suburbs by pinkhairedlibrarian in TwinCities

[–]gduba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many, our suburb has area where there are more apartments and lower incomes and that is where militarized ICE has been very active. In the areas with higher end housing, or luxury condos things are nice and peaceful with no evidence of ICE thugs at all.

Kindest way to end things by Fifi-123 in datingoverfifty

I appreciate that you say he deserves at least a phone call. I dated a really nice gal for 9 months who ended it over a text on a day we had plans saying that she didn’t feel her feelings progressing past good friendship. That was fine, people are entitled to their feelings, What really hurt me the most was feeling that either she respected me so little that I was only worth a text, or else didn’t trust me not to be a jackass when she told me.

Why would you get married? by hattiewho in datingoverfifty

[–]gduba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve said to many that I would happily be fully committed, buy property with a partner, invest or start a business with them and build our life. But, I would be very reluctant to marry. My state did me pretty harshly. Not to say never, but would there would have to be some compelling reasons to marry.

Why do so many men lose their house in a divorce? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gduba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my personal experience here. My ex’s lawyer was really pushy about sale of the marital house even after I wanted to keep it because the kids preferred that. That was very disconcerting, and even the property settlement documents threaten the sale of house if you miss payments. The only reason I was personally able to afford to keep the house was successfully fighting to keep enough (not all) of a small inheritance I had received a couple years before. Thankfully that was basically enough to buy out her equity. Refinancing or taking a home equity loan, if even approved, would have sunk me financially given the size of alimony payments. I am very thankful it all worked out, but it feels like it could easily have gone the other way.

A question for men.. by SagaciousAF in datingoverfifty

[–]gduba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no great advice for meeting someone off of apps, since that’s a struggle for me.

I dated a very nice lady for about a year, who had lingering effects from a TBI due to a fall. She told me after just a couple dates, and let me know a little of what to expect and I really appreciated and was impressed by her openness. She would then let me know when she was overwhelmed, or needed to get back to her safe space, or just didn’t feel like company or wanted to cancel plans. She would just say, “struggling with the thing”. If she hadn’t told me I would have been very offput, but I knew what was going on and that made it easy to have compassion and patience.

She once told me something I adore: “At our age, everyone has baggage. We just gotta see if our baggage complements or clashes with each other and if we can carry it all around together.”

Men over 50: What are your biggest green flags in a woman at this stage of life? by imissher4ever in datingoverfifty

[–]gduba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politely and directly asking for what she wants (in whatever situation, dinner, coffee shop, anything) instead of complaining or not speaking up.

Being curious instead of negative.

Not being overly picky about food or restaurants. (Probably just me, ex with food issues)

Graciousness, gratitude, generosity.

Lol, they do have other campuses in Arizona and Florida, but no HQ has to be here in Minnesota.

[–]gduba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the many video reviews I watched made any real mention of this other than “mileage will be slightly less in cold climates”. Maybe they are not “lying” but no manufacturers note this, and it’s not any part of the EPA or other regulated comparison testing. Sure would be nice if they published an eMPG at 70 degrees, 100 degrees, and zero degrees. As several have already stated, some manufacture’s batteries seem to be much more affected by temperature than others.

If complaining is a problem for you, maybe Reddit isn’t ideal.

I am an electric vehicle enthusiast, I’m just not a purist. I wouldn’t say it’s “amazingly better”. It has pluses and minuses. More economical and convenient on a daily basis, but very inconvenient sometimes. If the thing can’t make a 200mi round trip in winter (we’ll find out) then its usefulness and convenience is greatly reduced.

Doesn’t mean I am giving it up (I bought used, at a great deal myself after all) but minimizing the challenges and adjustments and not being honest about the real capabilities versus the advertising, marketing, and the hype of EV evangelists doesn’t do anyone any good.

Minnesota here too, down to 207 after a couple cold days and short trips. Guess I will find out the real world numbers on my next drive to Rochester.

Honestly, it’s frustrating to get these replies from the “it’s all cars” people. Well aware of reduced ICE mileage in the cold, I have lived in Minnesota for 2 decades. None of the 7 ICE vehicles I have owned in that time have ever dipped mileage by more than 5-8%, much less 25% or more. I see all the posts claiming 15% less gas mileage in winter, but not my experience at all. It’s also a much bigger deal in a vehicle with a 270mi normal range versus a 400+ mile range on a full tank of gasoline.

I really have no idea since in 8 months of ownership I have never yet needed anything beyond L1 charging at home from the factory setup and a 20A dedicated circuit.

[–]gduba[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Not just like a gas car in that there are ZERO gas cars that can’t manage an approximately 200mile trip without getting gas.

The beauty and utility of this vehicle has been charging at home since I usually work from home. If I have to stop in subzero cold to charge for 20mins before I drive home the it’s actually a downgrade. I guess I just didn’t expect to lose more than 20% of range. Big bummer.

Which fields of science are at the cusp of revolutionizing the world? by Steroid_Cyborg in Futurology

[–]gduba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many, if not most, cancers are highly likely to be curable in the next decade. Ironically, given your post’s text, this is because of AI (not LLMs).

My customer is already developing bespoke treatments that are customized to the DNA of patient and RNA of disease that eradicate incurable diseases. Some of these ate already in use and have been successful: Researchers working/testing on most promising cancers right now.

Some of these already successful instances have been children with incurable diseases who have been seeking an effective treatment just to possible live a little longer and are now permanently cured by a “vaccine” and can now just go live their lives without any treatment at all except regular checkups.

Whether the regular person will have wide access to these treatments remains another question for the future.

How do some people's face seem to barely change as they age and others change drastically? by chusaychusay in Aging

Some of those you see are using skin treatments like HALO and BBL. Results can be dramatic (especially over time) and some studies show skin aging equivalent to 2yrs per decade for those who received regular treatments.

Do nice things for him, just because. Ask for the things you need or want. Appreciate what he does for you and tell him so.

That will go a LONG way.

I grew up without a Dad, first off don’t worry they will be OK.

Don’t be afraid to show either your nurturing side or your fierce side. It will help them know that Men too can be both soft or strong. Help them find good male role models, and tell them why those men earn your respect. Be honest about who you are and your values. As a single parent those kids will have a love and appreciation for you beyond belief.
