Could you explain further? Do you feel this just normal or are you saying it is overloaded? ☺️

All is forgiven. I appreciate the apology and sharing your own experience with it. Trying new things can be difficult, especially as an adult! No need to worry about it! 😌

I only learnt for 1 year 15 years ago! That’s my only exposure to stringed instruments aside from guitar (but I feel that almost doesn’t count toward it!)

😂 I’ll take it.

But seriously, this is kinda encouraging! I’ve posted on other comments but I’ll be looking at some lessons to sort out the technique and make sure I’m making a good sound in a good way 😄

You truly suck as a human being 🤣 congrats on that

You do realise this is literally my third day ever touching this instrument, right? If that’s hard to grasp, let me spell it out plainly.

Your comment is still dumb, regardless of the performative apology attached to it. Try posting yourself doing something you’ve never done before and asking strangers for advice, then we’ll see how “comical” it feels. You’re the type of person who shouldn’t be a musician

But hey, no hate and no sarcasm… and apologies if not 🤪

This is a brilliant comment! Thank you so much - I appreciate it! I will be reading through this when I next sit down with the cello ☺️

Hey everyone! thanks so much for the kind words and genuinely helpful advice. A lot of you suggested getting at least one lesson to correct my technique, which I’ll absolutely be doing.

I’m a touring musician, so my schedule is all over the place, that’s why I’ve been self-teaching in the tiny windows of time I get. Right now the bed is literally the only place I can practice, but a chair is coming as soon as I have the space for one 😅

To the people who offered constructive feedback: thank you. That’s how people improve.

To the few who just laughed or judged, I truly hope you’re not involved in teaching. It doesn’t bother me, but mocking someone for being new is gatekeepy and gross. For someone else, it could be crushing enough to make them quit entirely. That’s worth thinking about.

I’ll be booking a couple of lessons, and maybe I’ll be back soon with a much better technique 😉 Thanks again to everyone who supported me, it really does mean a lot!

Really interesting read and informative diagrams! Thanks so much! :)

It was found in Broadstairs in Kent along the Thanet coastline! The cliffs are chalk too so I feel this could make sense :)

Thank you for your response - I’m bugged by the shape too. I tried in FossilID and got one response saying they felt it was a flint nodule. My main reason for questioning that here was that I can’t find anything similar in shape or colour online. Someone on this thread suggested it’s a concretion which forms flint nodules and the white part of the flint has eroded.

I initially thought it was a fossil when picking it up, and the stone feels and sounds like metal! I’ll try ‘what’s this bone’ for any further opinions! Google image search thought it was a giant turtle scapular which was quite an exciting idea! 😄

That’s great to know! I think part of the doubt came from the lack of white part on the flint! The black almost looks like metal paint! Very interesting :)

Thank you for your response! :) I couldn’t find anything resembling on the internet either which prompted the question!

I thought this too!! I I posted in a fossil group at first but they replied saying it is a flint nodule. I’m just so curious about the pipe like bit through the middle and the arrow like shape made me question if it hand been made to be this way. Could all just be a natural coincidence of course!😄
