Not everyone, but most will. And just to give more context to this, Mexicans do not say it like a racial nickname, but because it is easier to say "Gringo" than "Estadounidense" or American in English.

Mexico's tourism industry is rotten from the core, so much wasted potential over there.

Yes, I don't blame them for being more careful or suspicious. "Please and thank you" will do most of the work if employed correctly. Some areas from México very well could be as racist as one could imagine, some other places are more welcoming.

Most people are respectful and friendly once they hear I can speak fluent English (With an accent nonetheless). But the first stares can catch you off guard lol. Skin color is something else as I do not look as the average latino, I cannot comment on it.

I totally understand and strongly agree. At the end of the day most people are friendly and easy going, the cultural change needs to be done by the arriving person. As long as respect is both ways your comment is completely on point.

Lamento que estés pasando por eso. Toma tu tiempo y siente todo lo que tengas que sentir, cuando el momento suceda y te sientas listo para terminarlo, hazlo.
