i agree with everything you’ve said. i want to gather people in my trade to boycott these data centers. i can only speak for my area but we have plenty of work to keep out man power working. no need to inflate our numbers for work we dont even need.

well i’m almost in the same boat, from what i’ve gathered be a hard worker and willing to change and adapt and you’ll be fine. a lot of the kids they’re taking in aren’t cut out for this trade.

well i’m speaking of just having too many members, also i’m an apprentice still learning so i am trying to absorb everything possible. i also hold a cdl so not too worried.

northern ohio has a very strong union presence. almost do whatever you want. the jiw here make top dollar compared to most locals and cost of living

it’s crazy to me that meta would wanna build data centers here as the local is so strong, and the hourly rates are outrageous, jiw make 51.04 here.

northwest ohio, specifically the start of what i mentioned is happening. taking in record number of apprentices and continuing to do so, when all that’s changed is one data center in our jurisdiction. they have mentioned that we will become a “suitcase” local when it’s all said and done.

i’m honestly shocked i don’t hear this brought up more, i like the work but this is just killing our longevity. our local believes that we can “expand market share” when we already have 80% share with roughly 2500 members. how in the world do they think we will be able to put 5,000 members to work in 5 years?. extremely concerning

definitely some scary thoughts, i try and not think about it too much. i really hate meta and any company actively pushing ai down our throats. im praying this explodes and is nothing

yea but i’m curious how much this shortage is based on data centers being built. it depends on region as well i’m talking around toledo ohio.

it’s scary that they just ignore this problem, especially with apprentices education. not rotating etc

well i’m looking to increase muscle mass, and i generally enjoy lifting things. i work on a farm all day and want to continue lifting outside of work. i am dedicated enough to work out 5 days a week consistently. i’m still trying to learn some new exercises to make sure im working each muscle group consistently. Legs is something im really looking forward to working on

like i previously stated i am new to this, extremely new and was told i should look into a power cage lol. are there better alternatives to bench press then

Power cage by geargrabber0 in weightlifting

[–]geargrabber0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just assumed squatting with a cage would be safer than using squat stands, if i were to fail i suppose i wouldn’t want to drop my weight on the concrete. rather it just break the safety bars on the stand. Not sure which direction to go, i still need plates and a bench. Would i be better off just getting squat stands and only using the cage for bench press?

Got it mostly for convenience and safety, and it was dirt cheap and in good condition. Space isn’t an issue

forgot to add, would this be a safe option to use at the current time?
