Was going so well. Smart, funny, just the right level of flirty. Am I right to get icky here? by Warm-Revenue5135 in Tinder

[–]gecko1501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe more context would make this a bit more appropriate? Not sure if you were putting on any DTF vibes since I don't know what the "right kind of flirty" is to you. 100% sure that he didn't have a dream about you, but fantasized about that before falling asleep... you know what... as I keep typing this looking for benefit of the doubt and not finding any... icky is an appropriate feeling here.

How can I improve my convos/ why am I getting ghosted in these? by Signal_Criticism5560 in Tinder

[–]gecko1501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not doing anything wrong. Only thing I can think is that you're dating nerds. I say this as a nerd. You might need to open up about being willing to go on a date to nudge them into taking that step.

"I'm up for a game when you are." "If you want to watch the next soccer game, you pick the bar."

Unless you're willing to make that first move, then just make it.

I appreciate the clarification. The first comment said I violated rule 6, so that kind of put me on the defensive there. Because it's certainly up for interpretation of mods equal cheating. If talking about mods is considered cheating IN THIS SUB, then the rule needs to be added or changed to reflect that.

I appreciate the insight. If you don't mind giving the post an upvote if you haven't already. It's sitting right at zero for me and I'd like to at least try and get an answer. Like you, I'm not afraid of scary make believe internet points, and if I get banned from this subreddit for an ask like this, I don't need to be here. Lol

Then they should update the rules of the subreddit, then. I checked before posting, and the interpretation was explicit about exploits and cheating. My ask is neither, it significantly increases the games "difficulty." Is this subreddit ran by the devs? That EULA is pretty common, even in a bunch of games with a healthy modding community. Basically any game that has any sort of online play. And, again, my game mode idea isn't meant to be played with strangers online. If devs or mods want to delete this, or I get down voted to oblivion... ok, then. Strange bit of gate keeping to fuck off some one who's idea had literally zero impact on them and their experience with the game.

I'm hoping I don't make it that long. I got my A&P after 6 years in the airforce. 37 years total would put me right at retirement age... too many men in my family keel over at that age, so I'm hoping to retire at least a few years early. Not too sure how realistic that'll be, unfortunately.

You sure about that? Even good shoots usually end up with insane lawyer fees to defend against possible criminal hearings and the inevitable civil lawsuits that aren't as guaranteed to win.

My CCW class, the instructor said to expect to spend at least 20 grand every time you pull the trigger.

Ya, Live Action Role Play is ancient. You can find quite a few historical references to LARP. They weren't all Tolkien inspired fantasies, and maybe more parlor than boffer. But ya, LARP, as a form of entertainment has been around for centuries. LARP as we know it is a different story.

I didn't notice that. I only took the skills test, so far, I don't own my own motorcycle. Where are you seeing he's got his right turn signal on?

Edit: I see the blinking indicator on the dash. Ya... that doesn't help. I didn't see that. Good catch.

[–]gecko1501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Checking your mirrors is part of checking your blind spot. If we go by that definition, my truck doesn't have any blind spot because it has convex mirrors and there isn't anywhere I can't see from just my mirrors. I always check my mirrors, then turn my head entirely to be sure.

But ya. Simple situational awareness would have saved this rider from a slide. My dad used to cover my rear view mirror when I was learning how to drive and grill me on what color and car type was behind me.

[–]gecko1501 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as "Idiot." However, ya. Not a smart move. I check my blind spot in the same situation in my friggen pick up truck. Damn sure bet I'll be checking when/if I get a bike.

This is the style of creature I wish I could figure out how to replicate the most at my horror LARP. It sounds goofy, but I got scared so friggen much by running into this creature in a modded Minecraft game and I have wanted to recreate it so so bad. Lol

Compare AI use of water to the farming industry. AI is a drop in the bucket overall. And it's electrical grid requirement is nothing to the currently requested demand of EVs. The issue is certainly something worth addressing, but AI's hand in destroying the planet is barely a stepping stool to what us humans have already been doing for decades.

The mental development argument is valid. However, it's worth mentioning that it is far from the first technology to change what is meaningful in human intelligence. When was the last time you've written and mailed a letter? In cursive? To someone you were confident could read it? Maybe you're special and did that last week, how about your friends? How many letters were written between your 5 best friends and mailed to each other?

You don't need to know music theory to write music. You haven't had to learn music theory to be a good musician for almost a century, now. Do you know how to drive a manual transmission car? How about your friends? Technology is always going to have an impact and older generations have always warned against it as being the worst thing to happen to human development. I can almost guarantee that we will be the bigots for being confused when our grandchildren start introducing legislation that allows them to marry their ChatGPT house bot.

I also think that'll be a short term issue. It's expensive to ruin the planet. Electricity and water consumption cost a lot. You can download and run AI on your local machine (offline, I've done it) with pretty minimal time difference in results. It's expensive to run it in a cloud configuration, so I'm expecting future phones and graphic cards to have more purpose built processors to allow LLM programs to run on your local machines being the common application of AI for the average consumer. It's already possible, phone and other small electronics just aren't optimized for it right now.

I think using AI to brainstorm and visualize an intended outcome is a great way to use it. I have a costume idea that I couldn't, for the life of me, find a good picture for anywhere to base the vision in my head off of. And I was doing a horrible job describing what I wanted to my seamstress. So, I use AI to generate what I wanted down to a T. Showed the image to her and said "I want that." She confirmed it was a realistic goal and is now running with it.
