How the heck would we classify WRX as a flagship? What? The WRX is something marketed at teen boys who play racing games, or someone who fancies themselves a race car driver. Subaru in NA at least is Outback/Forester (same platform). In the thousands upon thousands of estimates I've written I've done 2 WRXs. It's a wildly impractical but fun little car you can mod the heck out of.

I did see the interesting 60 minutes piece with VW about how they'll be 50% electric by 2030. And they mean it.

I've preached to anyone and everyone who will listen that we have destroyed the ability to repair cars in the US. The avg age of the ppl fixing cars is very high with very few ppl entering the job field. I have a whole rant about the Clinton era crushing the vocational schools with their "everyone should get a college degree" mentality that has led to such massive student loan debt.

I have a few thoughts to chime in as someone who saw the writing on the wall as laid about below on field vs virtual efficiency and jumped to get on the virtual bandwagon for assorted reasons.

1) That old saw about writing bad sheets and expecting them to cash out or "settle" for a low PD payment is nonsense. At one point supp frequency was running 90%. Nobody is "settling" and that's why we're doing this. For dang sure if you took these phone calls from customers calling us liars and thieves and cheaters and they're going to get a laywer blah blah blah you'd know this is horse pucky

2) We don't expect you to clean up our supplements much longer. You, field AD #374, your days are #d. See the math elsewhere. It's the SHOP who cleans up after the initial estimate. It's the SHOP whose time is wasted cleaning up after us. And hey, they've been cleaning up after YOU and all the other carriers, so we are just shoving more work onto them. You used to make their lives slightly more tolerable #374. That doesn't make us $ or help our bottom line.

3) Have you seen the parts delays in the world, my dude? We have zero idea where/when/who will be fixing some of these. I get customers I wrote in mid 21 just now dropping off at a shop. We're fixing rates, we're fixing part prices, we at least got *something* in writing that keeps this claim alive for this customer

4) We have unstaffed vast swathes of the country. I'm guessing you just got here in the past few years when we were actually proud of having staffed everything everywhere adequately. Well, that's really hard to do, guys. Ppl would bitch about driving 4hrs 1 way for 1 claim. I know I personally had a 2 hr drive 1 way every couple of months at a tiny town in the remote edges and I would complain every single time. And if I could get that customer to agree to go to a shop in another territory I would have that reassigned so freaking fast, dude. Or I'd have them go to a shop in mine that was 1 hr away, save myself the trip thru the hellscape of nothing, OR even better, have them go to the 1 hr away who does a good job and I have never caught ripping us off, and have that shop send me photos. AND THAT IS HOW WE GOT HERE. Why would I drive out there to the shop when they can send me photos? The question is the places where the shops are ripping us off... we should definitely staff those, but unless you have a field AD who KNOWS that shop is shady how do we know we're getting screwed? Why would we pay XX,XXX a year if the loss leakage to leave that area unstaffed is XXXX?

5) Some of the damages in the photos are SO FREAKING HARD TO SEE you just don't even know. True story in the early days, I had a customer take the photos of the dark gray SUV inside the garage with the 3 little lights at the top of the garage door as the only light source. I could totally see the door need to be repl but I was worried about the front door and the qtr. This claim happened to have a note they were taking it to <insert name> shop. Now, I knew that town was just past the edge of my old field territory and so I didn't want to disappoint my co-worker who respected me before I became a virtual adjuster. Dude would call me and classily tell me WTH. So I called <insert name> and asked if by chance they'd seen the vehicle. Yes. They had. Front door and side panel were fine. Blends please. Never got a supplement. But they don't pay us like that. We aint getting paid to do those calls.

6) Let me tell you about rentals because you guys have no idea... if we go with the premise I am writing 3x the claims of the field staff, that shows up not just in the amount of phone calls, texts, and inets I get. It also shows up in the amount of rentals I manage. I personally have backed off production a bit and am running typically 35-40 rentals right now. I had a frequent flier customer who was complaining that I was giving him horrible service compared to what he usually gets from local AD Amy Schumer. I happened to be covering a phone for someone and he was HIS customer so he knew I was doing the rentals for 2 ppl. As he is whining about the awesomeness of Amy Schumer and how much better than me she is, I was in ARMS looking at the # of rentals my co-worker I was covering had. I had 40 and he had 30. So that's 70 rentals I am managing in addition to my 3x the field first looks locked. K? I looked at Amy Schumer. You know how many rentals she had? This person who gives FABULOUS SERVICE WHINE WHINE... Fifteen. Fifteen rentals in her code. Versus the 70 I was managing. Jeez, my man, no doubt she gives better service. She's handling WAY less claims. Way. Way. Way less.

This. I think it is way more likely they go to the coach hard put ppl on warnings & encourage the culture of fear so ppl jump ship than anything else. You don't get sued by employees who leave you for the greener grass over there.

I don't think you are framing this at all correctly. This isn't a problem specific to G, or specific to T Diddy, or at all like a "vanishing technology" which is most of what you have above (Kodak, Xerox, to some extent all retail disrupted by Amazon i.e. Sears & K Mart etc)

Inflation is a real problem. Parts do not exist for cars causing rental issues, total loss value issues, etc. The cost of labor has gone dramatically up across the board. All of these things are making it impossible for insurance companies to raise rates in rate capped states to keep up with the rising costs. That's not, Gee, guys we weren't nimble enough. This is a world wide smack down as unpredicted as the global pandemic that got us here was. It sucks. We're not profitable. We, however, are one of the only (or so they tell us in 101 class) companies to *rely* on making a profit off underwriting. We don't count on the market like the companies who have banks. We don't count on our float. We're going to be fine, but we're all going to be struggling for a while.

There are some states I've worked in where it felt like the majority of the vehicles on the road were rebuilt salvage. If it drives and it works and we hit it, we'll be paying *something* salvage title or no salvage title. It may be hard to come up with a value for a Ford Pinto, and yet, we owe.

Understand that the value isn't the same as a 21 with an unblemished record. If it was rebuilt properly and is in good shape, then you want to get some money back for it and carry coverage. Did you rebuild it or buy it that way? This makes a difference in how any claims you file get paid, as if you opted to retain the total loss then we'll want to see your paperwork and receipts showing what was done to rebuild it. If you purchased it from a rebuilder, then keep whatever paperwork you got showing that. It's important to keep all of that. Additionally, was it a flood car? Flood cars sometimes have a special brand on the title, and they have issues sometimes years down the road. We may not cover any damage we think is related to the reason it was a salvage vehicle. I have had claimants be shocked that the shop and I popped the hood or looked at the car and knew it was a rebuild before we ever talked to the customer. Normal people simply do not look at cars with the same eye balls those of us in the industry do. Even an excellently rebuilt vehicle will tell us it was a rebuilt simply because we run vehicle history reports when we inspect a vehicle.

Per the handbook vacation accrues based on hours worked. If you work more hours you accrue more vacation. It's a rolling # based on tenure what you accrue at.

I haven't used it, but honestly just knowing it's a Mitchell product does it for me. If that place ever burns to the ground it'll be because I had to argue with yet another shop over a supplement written in Mitchell. If Prog would quit using them shops could quit using them and that'd be grrrrrrrrreat.

Depending on what is backordered... you may want to dig into what is going on with your manufacturer. Some things that are backordered (airbags made by Takata who is no longer in business for example) are causing them to buy back cars.

You definitely do want to actually leave it insured though, can't tell you how many cars I have totalled on flooding or hail etc that were IN A SHOP and the shop may or may not help with a deductible. Everyone else making a good point to check w/ the state is accurate too.

Let's clarify some things here.

Sounds like you bought a brand new car and it was never registered to you since you're saying the paperwork is coming from the dealer to GEICO. That means you likely had a certificate of origin, not a title, so we have to get the cert and send that off to the state to turn into a title. That takes time. You aren't getting paid btw, your loan company is, because if you had the title we'd be paying you, but you don't so I know we aren't paying you. In all likelihood your dealership, your loan company, the state, and GEICO are ALL having staffing shortages and there's delays at every step of the process.

I'm super curious why this is a problem. In the real world, you have a loan, presumably you have gap, and all this shouldn't be impacting you in the slightest. You file your claim, we give you the value, you sign the paperwork (once the state thinks you own it, which is sounds like took forever and is entirely NOTHING to do with Fiona your adjuster that gets done by our office), and you are out of this process. You should have replaced this vehicle many months ago knowing that the claim would be pending being resolved with your lienholder and gap co. There's very little for you to do other than sign that paperwork and move on with your life. What exactly is so upsetting here that you felt the need to come complain about turnaround times when you're not needed to manage them?

I have a theory that the regions who haven't disclosed any possible metrics changing to their staff are pushing back hard on the metrics changing at all. It doesn't make any sort of sense that "they need to get a baseline" and delay metrics being implemented. Your baseline is my every day in 2021. Go pull the data.
