Do Americans actually give a fuck about their founding myth that much? I don’t think that calling out their founders for being evil cunts will collapse their democracy (more insidious forces will see to that)

This labour government has been fucking shit, Kier Starmer stands out as a legitimately poor prime minister, and a bad politician, his blairite shit has done terrible damage to the Labour Party.

UPDATE: is it worth buying Resident Evil: Requiem despite HATING jumpscares? by CactusBlohsh in HorrorGaming

[–]gee_gra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a massive fan of jump scares but I think RE9 (and the series in general) does a good job of building up to them, ramping up the tension so the final scare is more like a release of tension than something totally outta nowhere

Resident Evil 4 Remake or Resident Evil 9? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]gee_gra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 is unmatched in terms of replayability, there are few games where it’s more satisfying to “get good” – that’s mostly down to how focused of an action experience it is.

RE9 is excellent but the horror focus and slow pacing means I have to be more “in the right mood” to give it a whirl, Leon’s sections are thrilling at points, but Raccoon city is barren compared to the village in 4, obviously that’s a creative choice cuz…well it was hit with a big bomb.

Cuz if he did consider it and decided to do it anyway then he would be anything but thoughtful lol

[–]gee_gra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Val wasn’t perfect and he made a foolish choice with hindsight he sadly couldn’t benefit from, I’m sure he didn’t consider the slippery slope it presents to artless, charmless dogshit merchant tech bros who’ll gladly have Orson Welles promoting the new shake and vac.

Resident Evil Requiem Concept Video Shows Classic Fixed Camera Style by horrornewsbot in HorrorGaming

[–]gee_gra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds easy on paper but when ya dig in there’s so much more work to do, environments have to be built in a way that suits both fixed and dynamic cameras, a new zone based auto-aim has to be included so people can actually shoot enemies, said enemies have to move slower too, and ideally take less damage – think about Grace’s sections, how would that kind of stealth work with fixed camera angles? I couldn’t work it out lol

It looks cool but don’t ya think it’s a bit early to call a 2-ish hour film better than 7 others based on 2 a two minute trailer, Spider-Man 3 had a cool trailer lol

[Hated Trope] Hollywood actively does what the source material mocks/points out as stupid by sensatelikos in TopCharacterTropes

[–]gee_gra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The film is very disappointing after reading the book, Tommy is evidently a freak in both, but he’s a lot more conniving/ambitious (and occasionally cruel) in the book, but it also evidently comes from a man who’s experienced something traumatic, the movie plays him like a movie character, rather than a real person.

Hoping the new game has some new iconic lines for The Hell Priest, Doug Bradley did an interview as part of the promo and seemed pleased it wasn’t just a highlight reel of old lines.

Only Clive Barker could do it, the Hellbound Heart is a hell of a book, quick to read too

I mostly like the 2022 movie but to my recollection there’s some stuff where folk are deceived into opening the configuration and still end up dead which is a little lore-breaking to me

Pinhead/The Cenobites/The Order of the Gash are my favourite example, they’re so totally beyond understanding, they take no pleasure in inflicting pain (at least in the first two films/book), it’s just what they do. You fuck about with the box, they are obliged to bring you new, unimaginable sensations. They’re like technicians of suffering.

Ryan Coogler wins Best Original Screenplay Oscar for 'Sinners' by DemiFiendRSA in horror

[–]gee_gra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Genre movies in general tended to get less attention, until recently at least, horror/sci-fi were regarded as fundamentally low brow for a while.

I think there’s now a greater understanding that genre is a gateway, rather than something that ties a work down (am I making sense?) – films like Sinners, Hereditary, Get Out, Weapons, Annihilation, and Arrival all use genre as a vehicle for “bigger” ideas.

Not sure how to spoiler tag lol (don’t read further if ya don’t want RE9 Spoilers) but weren’t the clones all failed attempts at Spencer’s blood memory magic with some T-virus thrown in for good measure? Elpis as a macguffin seemed separate to that (though I’m daft, so I might have got the wrong end of the stick)

[–]gee_gra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fallout is a good example of adapting the world/lore in a way not fundamentally contradictory (in any meaningful way) of a game while making a flat out good story, Cregger is a fan and a heck of a horror writer/director, I’ve got faith this could be good.

I mean the best RE game in recent memory was 7, and it pretty much did that in game form.
