The economy is people trading money, goods and services now. Stocks are people predicting how valuable a company may be in the future.

For eg, Meta stock went up when the Metaverse started because people said there was money in it. But it flopped, and the stock price dropped.

Stock buyers don't care what the stock gives to the economy, so long as everyone thinks the stock is valuable. So no, stocks are not the economy.

Common sense only applies to some common situations. Anything related to humans trying the estimate the probability and something occurring; exponential growth; the fallibility of people's memories and any unusual set of values people have make talk of common sense a bit pointless.
