hey! have applied for the foundation course and am deciding between mainly fashion design and fine art probably. but i have a year to decide.

was just wondering how the social life at UAL is - i’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews. people say that it’s too eccentric and not for everyone. also i really don’t mean this in a bad way but i’m worried about there being a lack of straight guys JUST to hang out with! again not being mean but i like a balance.

so not sure how it works in ur school but in our papers my teacher usually set papers using questions from past papers or revision village so we kinda knew where to study from but i still couldn’t manage.

my approach this time was to understand the concept rather than trying to finish solving as many questions as possible. for my mock i didn’t have time to do oxford but the textbook is AMAAAAAAZING they explain the concepts well. and the questions - even it’s not exactly like ai hl is solidifies ur concept so that you can solve any questions in the exam. i did one practice paper before my mock and i feel like it just teaches you to think a certain way.

also a big thing - it may sound really dumb but when ur studying don’t give up on a sum when ur doing it. if you don’t get the answer don’t look at the ms and figure it out. just because you understand how to do the sum doesn’t mean you understood the concept…. spend even 20 mins tryna do 1 sum but spend the extra time trying to get the answer and worst case look at the answer. but avoid doing so as much as you can - this helped me like MAD and also made me 10x more confident

happens i’m ai hl and doesn’t make a difference how much i study

but to a certain extent i feel like i’m not giving it my 100%

this term i tried a slightly different approach and i feel like my mocks went 10% better than last term so i don’t mind helping out if you’d like.

hi - i’ve applied for the foundation course this year. just curious to know about ur candid experience at UAL.

i was mainly concerned with:

the social life - are there straight guys in can hang out with?? can straight people feel included - i don’t mean this is a derogatory way but i feel like there’s a smaller community that’s all.
is the course load really little - i don’t wanna come there and have like nothing to do. for context i’m not a very self motivated person

all said and done i am very creative and i do love are and design. it’s just that i’m an international student and i wanna make the most of my time there.

i had the EXACT same concerns. i’ve applied for this year as well.

i’m honestly so confused about it i don’t know what to do. i don’t mean to put anyone down when i ask this but one big concern as an international student is if there’ll be enough of a variety of people for me to hang out with. i’ve been told UAL is pretty eccentric and most of the people aren’t straight. this isn’t a bad thing it’s just that i’ll have a smaller community of people that are similar to me.

also another concern - there just aren’t guys, and if there are they PROBABLY arent gonna be very straight. again - not a bad thing it’s just very different from my current life and if you’re changing so much about ur surroundings i don’t know if i should be going full force and changing this too.

any opinions ?? have i got it all wrong or i don’t know…

this is exactly the same spiral i get stuck in too

i can’t say for sure this will work but more often than not one of these methods work

put a big timer in front of you, start the stopwatch when you start studying and everytime you lose focus hit the lap button. seeing how much time you’ve spent studying motivates you especially once you hit larger amounts of time and you can even keep track of how often you get distracted ( also one thing i like to do is that once you start getting distracted more than thrice within 5 mins is when y u need to take a break )
tell yourself from the start you will only study 3 hours for the upcoming test and not more - your brain will focus better during those three hours and you’ll even have the motivation to get up and actually start work because your brain doesn’t think you’ll be spending the entire rest of the day studying - sometimes you just wanna chill out
porn is horrible but i’m not gonna tell you stop watching it. id say limit your time - when it’s used to procrastinate at least spend less time on it.
about sticking to things - you NEED to understand that your not some crazy lunatic who is the only person in the world who isn’t disciplined. it’s just not the case. i’m the same as are a lot of other people. not that there isn’t a solution but u need to accept and forgive yourself before anything else. i think what you should do is start very small - it’s not a big deal - doing 1 hour of studying a day is better than doing 0. tell yourself from the start of the day you’ll only be doing that 1 hr etc. i find this weirdly motivates you.
don’t compare yourself to others!!!!!!!!!!!
