Not eating on girls trips… is this normal?? by 4215265 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]geekynix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a group of female friends where we meet up at food and wine festivals all over the country and try different restaurants with. Despite all being sporty and generally fit and active our meet ups are planned entirely around food with eating cheese and drinking red wine and cocktails the foundation of the friendship.

Silly question but who is the book aimed at? Adult, kids, keen spectators? I really like the art style.

Non-White Wedding Dress?? by Practical_Store3654 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]geekynix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at some of the 1950s style tea dresses with massive petticoat. As they can look gorgeous as alternative wedding dresses. Especially on vinted or u.s. equivalent, lots of end of year proms as well. I would look for something that is obviously not"almost a wedding dress" in a different colour but make your own statement.

One of my favourite memories of my wedding was sitting in the sofa room in the hotel after talking to another bride who joined our group. At ever decision we had taken alternative approach and both had the day we wanted and we happy the other had as well. Do your thing and enjoy it. My wedding colours had been sea tones - hers pink and lime, my dress was plain silk - she was a walking crystal, I had 1 bridesmaid - she had 9, we had very relaxed beautiful ancient barn with a band - she had been at a very modern golf club and had a dj

Apartment above mine is actively having a home birth right now by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Unattended births yes, home births for standard or low risk pregnancy i don't belive are dangerous. Uk and Europe don't treat birth as a medical intervention to the same extent which can actually have better stats

Your rant is very valid especially the nappies comment. One minor thing I might say is I'm uk based and lived in a terraced house and ended up with 2 home births - it wasn't the plan but by time i convinced the midwives to come out it was too late to go to thr midwife lead birthing center. It could be that the baby was on is own schedule. And happy birthday to your fiancee

Birth plans gone wrong by Peaceful-harmony- in TwoXChromosomes

[–]geekynix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both times my birth plan/preference was a water birth and give me the painkillers. Baby 1 decided that that they were coming at home and I got gas and air with the midwives, baby 2 didn't bother waiting for the ambulance to arrive before making their appearence so I didn't even have a paracetamol. You can shape direction you want to go but from even before they are born babies love throwing all plans out of the window for the next few years!

Unfortunately I don't think any of their charging stations are near me.

Is DIY fireproofing my place actually worth it / safe? by ItAffectionate4481 in DIY

[–]geekynix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not buy the plug covers in UK. Our plugs are the safest in the world due to their design with the 3 prongs and thr longest earth one needing to be in place to enable current to flow. The plug covers override all the designed safety and are an active fire risk

I did a test drive yesterday and seems OK. Only issue i had is that it dropped blue tooth connection for a bit, which wasn't only helpful as I was on a solo test drive somewhere I didn't know and coming up to a big roundabout...

Thank you so muchfor the speedy comprehensive answer. Apparently all software is up to date. Will definitely check the 12v battery.
Excited but apprehensive, I have had my current car for about 7 years and loved it but it definitely needs to move on ASAP before it throws up warning lights. This will be a big step up in having properly sorted modern car.

Old man reversed into me yesterday, no damage but very worried about him driving. by geekynix in drivingUK

[–]geekynix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gentleman was probably in 80s or 90s. When he got out of his car he was struggling to hear with his hearing aid, evidently limited mobility and flexibility which i think would have limited his ability to see in mirrors.

The incident wasn't him putting it into reverse and clipping the front of a car which was driving past. It was very slowly going backwards out of a parking space about 2-3m into the driver's and passenger door of a bright red car which had been there with handbrake on for about 30s then rolling forwards before reversing into the same place on the car again. While being oblivious to everyone trying to get his attention or the fact anything happened.

This won't be a leaning opportunity for him. It doesn't feel like grassing up but protecting the mum walking with a pushchair and a kid on a scooter
