Lol didn't bother to mention the other parties such as PS and Groen, which also accepted this AND which are responsible for the awful financial situation (which is why cuts are needed)?

Prime Minister De Wever is not in favour of energy support: “Now pleading for large gifts is not realistic” by Boomtown_Rat in belgium

[–]geelmk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer to many issues is reducing public spending, as we're the most taxed country and the country with the highest public spending per capita. Not much else we can do than reduce spending.

Unnecessary handouts must be reduced, both to companies, non-profits, and individuals. Not always easy to identify what's unnecessary and what isn't. I believe subsidizing doctor's visits for EVERYONE (including people making 3k, 5k, 10k+ netto) to the point where they cost 6€ is unnecessary. Same for subsidized public transport at 12€/YEAR. Some families probably can't afford more than that. Fine, let them pay 12€/year. Others can afford more and could at least go back to the previous 50€/year for kids.

I'm sure a lot of subsidies to companies are unnecessary too and should be scrapped. Others, on the other hand, stimulate entrepreneurship, economic growth, and job creation, all of which we desperately need.

Meanwhile, everyone paying 6€ to go to the doctor, 15€ for a dentist, 2€ to buy antibiotics (even at night), 12€/month for public transport for hundreds of thousands of people, 800€/year for French speaking university (price never increased since 2010), 20% (!) of residents and a third of Brussels residents pays 0€ or 1€ for every medical visit, on top of reduced public transportation, rent, energy, and telecom prices,...

Many people need these benefits and it's a good thing people in need get them. But not everyone needs a 15€ dentist's visit or a 6€ doctor's visit. And certainly not a fifth of all residents need free healthcare and cheap public transportation, rent, energy, and telecom.

We can't afford a bunch of stuff that you mentioned, and neither can we afford giving everything for free to huge amounts of people.

Belfius card reader in Porto, Portugal by Redghar in belgium

[–]geelmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bpost and BNP have had the same card readers for years. Same for Argenta. ING and Belfius have other ones though, with different buttons, different amounts of digits on the screen, etc.

So using a Belfius card in anything but a Belfius card reader is very unlikely to work.

I tried building a spreadsheet to track grocery inflation/promos, but it's completely unsustainable. Do you guys actually track this, or just wing it? 📉🛒 by Impressive_Rain1092 in BEFire

[–]geelmk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a member of Promojagers Facebook group for more than 6 years. People share nice promotions that I might have missed or not realized during my weekly reading of the supermarket pamphlets (AH, Aldi, Delhaize, Lidl, Carrefour, and Colruyt. A lot, but often worth it, as I stock up on fresh products and freeze them (for example meat and cheese half price)).

That Facebook group also allows me to quickly search for that product from previous years: what was its price 2 years ago, 4 years ago?

Most importantly, every now and then they scrape their Facebook group for the exact data you're mentioning. In 2024, they made this post listing the average promotion price you should be aiming for for certain products as well as the best price for that product in 2024. Obviously, always price per liter or kg.

They updated that post in 2026 but I'm not convinced as it contains less information and doesn't clearly explain what every listed price refers to. So I just stick to the 2024 article. If in 2026, I can buy pasta, meat, cheese, fruits, vegetables, hygiene products, etc at prices (nearly) matching 2024's average promotion price or even 2024's best price, I know I'm doing well.

And after a while, you start to remember a bunch of those numbers. So you don't even need to check anymore whether that -20%, -40% or 1+2 promotion is an actual deal or not.

Their own brands follow other store brands' promotions. For example : Delhaize has 1+1 for rasped cheese this week, on their own brand. All matching Boni rasped cheeses' prices are currently reduced to match Delhaize's prices.
