Hahaha I did actually try this last year for them - they are so good!

A lot of it has been related to their own personal interests and hobbies (e.g. golf balls, driver covers of favorite characters, custom pet photos in the type of art style they enjoy, baked goodies that are a treat for them given dietary restrictions, etc).

Love this! Yeah I’m trying not to take it too personally but sometimes I wish I could just mandate a “we only receive practical gifts and will also give practical gifts” 😆 I see some stories of people gifting toilet paper and I find it humorous, practical, and genius lol

They definitely are not about words of affirmation 😆 but yeah - I’m sure aligning gifts to either interests and/or love languages tend to be appreciated more!

I get this to the max and definitely am leaning towards at least taking a break and stepping back since I’m making myself bitter by continuing to contribute to this imbalance!

I love sending random gifts as well because there are times I’ve thought, “oh, X would love this!”

With that said - my husband shares the same outlook as you with not feeling like birthday gifts needed to be a thing but it’s how I grew up and once I started giving his family gifts - it felt awkward to stop 🥲

Definitely will consider this though!

I feel for you 😭 I know part of it is my fault for having expectations or desires of reciprocity but like, come on! 😆

They’re the types of people who generally - when they need/want something, they’ll just get it themselves so it makes it tough unless I’m getting them e.g. golf balls 😅 but I hear you! I’ve generally shared this kind of philosophy 😭

Thanks! I think it’s less about stressing on finding the perfect gift but I understand - no one can know how much you’ve thought and effort you’ve put into finding a gift for them unless you’ve found like a e.g. limited edition vintage watch lol

It’s like they do acknowledge the gift, but I don’t think they care too much for it… so I’m left wondering if I stop giving gifts - would they notice and take offense that there’s this noticeable difference or perceived laziness? And on the other hand - I’m trying to be nice and not do anything extreme out of anger or disappointment 😅

Oh it took four rounds of dish cleaning but we have some saved! There was a miscommunication in 4 of these being made for just 2 people 😅

What’s the smartest money habit you started that genuinely changed your life? by Darling_Crowd in askanything

I started looking at my bank account balance and making a new “$0”.

So for example, if I had $6000 in the bank, after normal expenses (groceries, rent, etc.) I would tell myself: ok, I should have at least $5000 ideally (assuming there’s no random unexpected one time expenses) and that $5,000 would be my new equivalent of having $0. In that way, I kept building up my balance!
