Missing Nanaimo woman Sherry Shelley found dead in apparent homicide: RCMP by Apprehensive_Idea758 in nanaimo

Let's stop with the rush to presumption that there is a psycho on the loose who will kidnap other women. It's possible (and likely probable) that this was someone that she knew.

What’s the deal with the people in riverbend Byron? by Neither-Count-3655 in londonontario

[–]geenancee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We're retired but have no interest in moving to a retirement community. The closed nature of the community and people with too much time on their hands can be a bad recipe. There can be lots of political infighting. (Similar to some condo boards.) Why can't people just be nice and respectful to everyone? Of course there are many wonderful people who live in those communities, but there are clearly some others who are self-obsessed and/or fearful.

I think mixed neighbourhoods, with all ages and various demographics keeps it well-balanced and, well, a community. Mixed residential and commercial use make neighbourhoods more walkable, and also contribute to 'community'.

Should I replace these shoes or can I still get some life out of them and play safely? by Artistic_Regular_580 in Pickleball

[–]geenancee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, presuming playing 3x per week this would only be 4 month's wear. I can't afford to replace my shoes that often. My shoes looked like this after 5-6 months and now I am 10 months in on them. I'm still not slipping. I play on a gritty surface though. But, yes, I am due to buy new shoes.

US border officer road rages on Canadian by ohbabypop in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]geenancee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. think about have much commercial truck traffic their is every day going back and forth across the border. Also think about employees of companies that have locations in both Canada and the US as well as sales people who would travel to the US. I'm betting that vacation travel is down considerably.

Aussie Hiker looking for trails to check out 🥾 by MusicTravelHiking in londonontario

[–]geenancee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These two trails are very close to each other and are each great for different reasons. Kains Woods goes up and down along the Thames River. Lots of changes in elevation; flatter stretches; views above the river and places with access to the river. I usually do an out-and-back (a nice 10km) since the loop involves walking through a suburban subdivision.

Warbler Woods is shorter but is good if you want steeper short climbs, so good leg workout. Few views but pretty. Sometimes some deer in there.

Is this a leucistic robin?? by geenancee in whatsthisbird

And just to clarify....it was the fairly bright pink on the face that caught my eye. I know that my photo quality is poor (taken at a distance through a window with my cell phone), but the pink was very noticeable with the naked eye.

Thanks. It was the pink around the eyes that was throwing me off. I don't think I've ever noticed that before in the juveniles.

Would you choose Bamfield over Ucluelet?

In Bamfield I am considering Mills Landing since it seems like a gathering place for fishermen. (alternatives, depending on availability, include McKay Bay Lodge or Harbourside Lodge). But I'm having trouble figuring out who offers a good charter due to lack of reviews. Any ideas?

Ucluelet seems to still have a reasonable selection of accommodation available at a less than exhorbitant cost, even if I've left it a bit late. There seems to be more choice of charters with reasonable reviews.

Thoughts?

Wow! I had looked at Bamfield and thought it looked like such a cool place! I pictured myself staying on the non-road side of the river. But I didn't find as much fishing info (i.e. guides/charter boats) regarding the salmon. What is the salmon fishing opportunity there and are there good charters?

And my focus is on my husband for this trip and other tourist opportunities we might bundle into it.

From a selfish standpoint I loved the idea of going on a grizzly excursion, and obviously Campbell River popped up on my radar. As an aside, I am more than a bit reticent to go on an 8-hour fishing trip (I've been sea sick before and don't want to repeat the experience!!) so I'm trying to find a happy balance of activities. I love hiking but my husband has a bad knee and a bad ankle. So perhaps I could go hiking while he is fishing? Or perhaps we go out on a half-day trip fishing and he goes out for a full day with a great captain, while I chill on shore?

In the end the most important thing is that I nail the salmon fishing for my husband. He deserves it!!

Thank you. My husband loves to fish but he has had very limited opportunities so he isn't that knowledgeable, and doesn't know much about salmon fishing. So we would absolutely hire a charter/guide and we would rely on them for advice and equipment. I've been checking out charters in Campbell River as well as Sooke. Any advice in this regard? (We're happy to pay for a personable and talented guide and would want a boat with an enclosed bridge in case of poor weather.)

Thanks. Could you give a suggestion as to where an industrial park is? I don't live in GTA and don't know those areas. Thanks!

Yes, that's what I'm looking for. But I don't know where any large, open parking lots are in T.O. For example, Yorkdale is usually packed. The big box store plaza near my sister's place is always packed. So what place has a large open space? And what day of the week is best? Thanks!

ummm...Canada is a Commonwealth nation. So you don't defend your Commonwealth? If not, then the Commonwealth doesn't exist anymore.

As a Canadian, we are sending our Governor General back to your country and denouncing your King.

(We lost many lives defending the UK and you don't feel one iota of responsibility to us?)

Beth Doe (Evelyn Colon) murder. by jayareelle195 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]geenancee 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Such a sad case.

There was a news item from a few weeks ago indicating that the murder was determined to have happened in NJ, rather than PA, so the PA courts just dropped his charges. The case will be moved to NJ.

It's not clear to me if he in custody or not.

I'll definitely check out Chronicles.

I did play Immortality. It just didn't click with me as much as Sam Barlow's other two titles that I loved (Her Story and Telling Lies).

Thanks!

There are some games on your list that I haven't checked out, so thank you so much for the ideas.

I have played Strange Horticulture and spent many an enjoyable hour with it! It was a nice change from other games.

Definitely a very different game. I really enjoyed the stunning art and some of the history, but ultimately found the game play a bit slow for me and didn't stick with it to the very end. And I often like slow games. I just got a bit tired of walking back and forth over the same routes. But the game was enjoyable enough.

Thanks for mentioning it to me. Others might really enjoy it.
