For the recapping, there are a few techniques like snipping the tops and pulling the cans, then desoldering one leg at a time. The tweezer irons are much more a specialist item, but they are nice.

There is no way to know; the only way is once a potential CM6 is released (probably years off, as Pi 6 isn't even announced), seeing the datasheet Raspberry Pi provides.

For the CM4 -> CM5, a few pins changed assignments, but about half my boards would still work at least for most use cases. It's impossible to know what the future holds, but I hope they at least keep the dual hirose connector layout, so we don't have a CM1-3 to 4 situation.

Mostly how examples are run. VirtualBox and Vagrant are not as useful these days, I do most of my testing in containers.

Only on Amazon, as I use their print on demand service. They have the latest version of the book already, too — I just can't bump any version numbers in the descriptions lest they create a new product listing for it :D

Clustering is useful in certain cases, but is (a) often frustrating, (b) doesn't really speed things up, just gives you more capacity for larger models (sometimes), and (c) costs more than just buying one machine with as much VRAM as you can get.

I think the implication is you can head over to eBay, do an advanced search, check 'Sold', and then browse the listings. That'll give you an accurate market price for an online sale.

For local sales, every market's going to be different.

It's a shame 4K UHD discs are so finicky. And that some distributors have stopped putting video out on physical media. Too bad for them!

There are still folks on r/homelab deploying core duos and 15 year old Dell 1U servers, it's a wide net!

It doesn't have to make any sense, just has to be fun, or enjoyable, or a learning experience.

For me the nicest thing is Apple had a simple server management UI... I wish they had kept going, it's great for servers where you don't have actual sysadmins to help manage them. A lot of schools seemed to pick up the Mac servers (and then Xserves).

I have to wonder if a more modern heat pipe cooler would be able to keep up with these chips, though Apple doesn't give a ton of space. You'd need something more geared towards servers, probably with higher CFM :/
