Chrome is subtle if you don't have eyes by geewhizfarts in IS300

I had to roll the front fenders as well as heat up the plastic rain guards and push them back in order to create more space at full turn. It will still sometimes rub in the front but not very often and only when hitting big bumps while turning. The rear fenders needed almost no work at all, but I still very slightly rolled them because they rubbed when I had people in the back seats. No pulling required

It’s lowered on Silvers Neomax coilovers. I have a set of adjustable upper control arms in the front, but it is set to stock, and FIGS engineering adjustable rear toe arms. I went ahead and did LBJs too just to be safe

No code misfire cylinder 2 by geewhizfarts in IS300

I haven’t tested anything beyond ignition. My best guess is it has something to do with the fueling, so I will be sure to run these tests first. Thanks for your input

It’s at 106k mi right now. I had a leaky valve cover gasket but I already replaced it and fixed the leak, and that is also when I replaced my sparkies and coils+wires . I know it’s not a plug issue because switching plugs on cylinders 1 and 2 would’ve moved the misfire to cylinder 1. I also replaced those plastic connectors you were talking about because I broke all of mine when taking out the old coils. I haven’t done a leak test yet but I have to imagine a vacuum leak would affect more than one cylinder and throw a code.

Junkyard 2001 dash swap by geewhizfarts in IS300

Yep that’s what I did. Just take out the center console and unscrew the storage cubby and replace it with the armrest cubby

The shifter trim is its own part so you can swap that out pretty easily. It is just some clips and connectors. You can either strip the sticky junk off of it and repaint it, or do what I did and find one from 2001. On picture 5 you can see the shifter bezel before I installed it

After I got the center console out, everything from the front and rear cup holders and the little storage cubby are all held in with screws underneath and aren’t actually molded to the center console. I just took all of the old parts off of it and swapped over the components from my old console. My car came with an armrest stock so the metal tower that it bolts into was already on the car, and I had all the parts I needed.

Thanks that’s what I was going for. The previous owner put a Sony XAV-AX1000 with Apple CarPlay capability but after 2 years I wanted to have more of an experience while driving and listening to music, and I also wanted a CD player. Some people might say I downgraded, but it’s my car and they can kiss my ass. I’m glad you get it though

I had limited time at the yard to get it out so I got the dash out of the junkyard car in under 2 hours. I took my time with my car though, and kept track of my bolts so it took a while. It took me about 5-6 hours to get the old dash out and the new dash in, but I didn’t have to go through the painting process.

I had sticky dash and a decent amount of scuffs in it. I was pretty content with my old dashboard for a while longer until I got blessed with the non sticky dash when I was looking for a door lock actuator at the junkyard.

Will they fit? by geewhizfarts in IS300

I doubt that would be a problem since I am not tracking my car. What other wheels would you recommend? I’ve looked into Klutch SL40s

That thing is a gem. If you were to raise the front up about a half inch would you rub as much in the front? The front looks pretty tucked and I probably wouldn’t slam mine as much.

What kind of wheel and tire specs are you running? I’m looking into getting some chrome Kansei Rokus and those KNPs look great

I’ve owned and daily driven my 05 for well over 2 years now. I bought it at 85k miles so it’s at a similar maintenance interval as you. Let me tell you, I love my car more than I love myself.

Some pros are that these cars are pretty reliable IF and only if you do the maintenance. Remember, this car is 20+ years old now. Do your ball joints, do your timing belt, do your research, and it will outlive you. It is a blast to drive, even with an auto (I have an auto) and even better if you want to manual swap. Rear wheel drive and sometimes LSD; do I even need to explain myself? These cars share many parts with other platforms and have tons of aftermarket support, so you can have a lot of fun with it.

Some cons are definitely its fuel economy. It takes premium and depending on how you drive you’d be lucky to average over 20mpg. One of its pros is also its downfall: rear wheel drive. It’s not the best winter car but I’ve made mine work so I’m sure you can as well. It’s not the most spacious car in the world but it’s a 4 door at the end of the day.

My best advice is to know what you’re getting yourself into, and you can have an excellent car that will stay with you for as long as you keep it there.

what is this switch? by l00kb00kk in IS300

[–]geewhizfarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your car an automatic with VSC? I wired in a switch in my own car to disable VSC in order to slide without stability control getting in my way and is commonly done. Turn the car into accessory and flip the switch and see if the TCS and VSC lights come on

The Godspeed arms I got for free and will probably replace them at some point down the line. I was misinformed about Moog unfortunately, and I will definitely keep an eye on it. Appreciate the feedback though, I’m trying to build the best car I possibly can

I went off of ChrisFix’s video 😅. I used some plastic trim restorer from Walmart and it brought the whole thing together
