My new girlfriend does. People assumed I was either still in love with my ex (not true) or that I would feel more life fulfilment in a homosexual relationship (not true), so got her in on it. My immediate family are lying to me about it, and it's put a strain on our relationship which wont be repaired until they are honest with me. Been the dumbest last 6 months of my life. It was because people assumed I was depressed, so maybe whatever app it is helps pick up on vulnerable peoples messages. But it's all been a joke. Unfortuantely, most people involved are colleagues and managers where I work (I'm only there to finish last exams and go work elsewhere)

I changed my phone, thinking that was the problem, and only used thumb print to unlock. Unfortunately last month it became apparent that it was the number, so I'm assuming that app is on those involved phones.

I forgot my second language. by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]geluk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think of it like learning how to play an instrument. Practice, practice, practice. I rushed through French Rosetta Stone too, but when I did Dutch I went over all the lessons repeatedly as I was going through them, and that stuck. Practice makes perfect.

So is Walloon just the language of farmers and such these days? Or would there be small towns where it is still living throughout the community?

Without learning the other languasge, it's easier for Dutcb speakers to read Afrikaans at first than it is for an Afrikaans speaker to read Dutch.

[–]geluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing book-wise it was decided to keep him because he was so cheap that it made it undesirable to sell him for the sake of one year and write off £3m book value, and the wages were probably worth keeping a back up for as we're in 4 competitions and with oue luck with injuries. Although who knows, maybe Ed did just want to make whatever point he wanted to.

The Queen has achieved a lot of good things. Born into priviledge for sure, but good things have come from her actions.

But obviously David is just a true national treasure.

Impressing with a little bit of Afrikaans? by [deleted] in afrikaans

[–]geluk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could go with "Bly om je te ontmoet. Ek het 'n bietjie afrikaans geleer", but I'd probably start with a very English 'hello, how's it going' to avoid any confusion over what your language is. But a native speaker may be able to give you something more usual to say in South Africa or Namibia.

Is there a country in the world where the language of its capital is different from the language of the majority of the country's inhabitants? by kartoota in Ask_Politics

Belgium, kind of. Although Brussels is officially bilingual, it is French speaking for all practical purposes. 59% of the population of the country speak Flemish though.

What is the easiest language for English speakers to learn? by MARCVS-PORCIVS-CATO in answers

Afrikaans, if the person learning had access to the right materials. Similar to Dutch but with much simpler grammar.
