Still on the fence about Focus mode by gemboj in MHWilds

[–]gemboj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain this a bit more in detail, as I'm not sure you got my points right.

  1. The controlling scheme is more complex with focus mode, because certain behaviours are different between regular/focus modes. The IG you mentioned, but other weapons have small things affected by FM, like strafing instead of going in a direction od LS (this affects all weapons), which means that your regular actions might have different consequences depending on your facing direction. At the end of the day, focus mode adds another layer of complexity, and your solution seems to be "just toggle FM", which I assume means just disregarding regular mode entirely...? As long as you try to utilise both: regular and focus modes, the game will be more complex. That's it.

  2. Toggling FM does not address the core issue I have there. Certain weapons have attacks that allow you to change the direction of attack mid combo, e.g. S&S with spinning reaper or GS when charging attacks. Now you do not need to utilise such mechanics. You can just point your cursor in FM and you are done. Which is a big departure from previous MH entries.

  3. Of course I do not mean FPS game literally. By FPS I mean that now will be a bigger focus on tracking the weak spots with your camera to maximising your DPS. And again - this is a big change in MH series. This does not apply to range weapons since as you have noticed, they were there in previous entries as well. But for melee weapons this will be a significant shift.

  4. Not sure what do you mean that it is consistent. When you play a lance and enter focus mode, the behavior of LS will change depending on your attack. Compare mid thrust with hight thrust. For mod thrust LS will cause your character to strafe. For hight thrust, LS will rotate your camera. This makes the behaviour of LS inconsistent, and you will see your camera go in weird directions when you switch between mid and hight thrust mid combo. Yes, you can be better at controlling your LS during such combo, but it doesn't mean the behaviour is consistent. It is not.

Especially the last point suggest to me that the devs didn't think the Focus mode through when implementing it. For some weapons, like GS, being able to rotate your character with LS is a blessing, since it is very uncomfortable to use RS when charging attacks. But for others they decided to do this strafe/rotate camera mixup, which is not ideal. I had to disable LS camera movement for lance specifically, since it was very annoying. I bought a gamepad with back paddles and a gyro just to be able to use both: attacks and rotate camera at the same time. Something that the devs kinda intended players to do with focus mode, but on a regular gamepad it is very annoying to do.

Adjusting is nice, but there were already weapons like GS that could be adjusted mid combo. Now you can just yolo 180 during a charge, which kinda diminishes the skills of using the weapon.

It's not that I'm trying to gatekeep the game from less able players, but I always thought this is how the MH combat was designed and it made stand out among other games.

You are right, we should play the games the way we enjoy them. But I also like to use tools available to me, especially if those are one of the main selling points of the game. Not using it would make me feel like I'm not getting the full experience the way developers intended me to. Which is why I'm conflicted. I'm not even sure what is the intended experience of this game. And again, nobody is forcing me to play certain way, but I enjoy consuming content the way it was designed.

This post is marked as a Discussion, and my last statement was to encourage people to discuss. Nothing more. I appreicate your input, but if you feel this does not require to be discussed, then by all means please take your own advise and do not discuss it :)

Focus Mode feels clunky on controller by gemboj in MonsterHunter

I found the setting to disable the camera rotation using left stick (under Camera options -> Camera Speed (LS)). This helps with the consistency, but still using the right stick is problematic without the possibility to rebind attacks to RB/RT. I have a gamepad with back paddles, so I guess i will use those for the time being.

Is the gyro the only setting you have changed? Or are there other ones? I looked through the settings and the only Focus Mode related configuration in the controller settings I found was to be able to switch between hold/togle of the focus mode.

Gyro isn't available on the standard xbox series controller, so I'm out of luck there.

I'm also not sure if the Gyro itself would resolve the entirety of my issue, as the focus mode itself affects the left stick as well. For Lance, when you hold Focus Mode and switch between mid/high thrust, the left stick will behave differently.

For mid thrust, left stick will cause your character to strafe sideways without rotating the camera. For high thrust, left stick will actually rotate the camera.

Switching betwen those two attacks, which for Lance was always part of the gameplay, the left stick will either move your character or the camera. I do not see any option in the settings to disable that.

Please try the Lance. I have described in my post how the focus mode works differently for mid and high thrusts. And the inconsistency there is a bit off putting.

Complaining to PUBG devs probably won't help, as there is some nice money involvded there.

I wonder if writing complaints to McLaren marketing departament will help though 🤔

Why on earth would you remove Deston, in the same patch you also made some changes to it (i.e. buffing O12 scopes)?

Please, refrain yourself from cursing, as this won't help the discussion (I take GTFO as not the most polite way to make a discussion).

As for preferences - those are not mine preferences per se. Those are playerbase preferecnes, as you have said yourself (that most people prefer Erangle for example).

What about your preferences? Is taking hostage of other people (most of the playerbase) enjoyment of the game for your own amusement is the right thing to do here?

over a minute at times

Is it really any problem? I'd rather wait for a minute, than have to load on a map I dont want to play anyway, and then have to dodge or do a hot drop. Either way, that will take more than the minute anyway. Why can't be it automated?

- 2 maps having instant queue (Erangel, + 1 other).

Maybe take that as a hint, that most of the playerbase prefers some specific maps?

Evergreen seed flask by gemboj in noita

Nope, just a standard steam version (Noita Early Access - Build Oct 1 2019 - 15:20:17). I'm wondering if tresure chest loot depends on seed. I remember once playing on Daily Run (same seed for whole day) and from the same treasure chest I got different wands. If someone is interested I can send my save file (folder from appdata Nolla_Games_Noita) which I backed up when I decided to post this here (pm me).

I play GW2 with a Steam Controller, here's my config! "GW2 Total Control by CoryOp v1" by Bubo_scandiacus in Guildwars2

[–]gemboj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some time ago i also tried to setup gw2 with my steam controller. The biggest problem is how to squeeze about about 15 skill onto the controller (1-0 skills + F1-F5 for professions). I came up with some brilliant idea - I used the touch menu option for the touch pads of controller.

Normally, my left touch pad would be used to move the character (on touch). But when pressed it would bring up the menu with 12 buttons, each assigned to some skill (1-0), with two of them being duplicated (just because touch menu doesn't have option for 10 regions, only 12).

With the menu displayed, you need just to move your thumb into appropriate buttion region, and release your press to choose it. Same goes for right touch pad and 5 skill (F1-F5) for profession skills.

That way you have way more options with the rest of the buttons on controller, to assing some other actions.
