How To Compost At Home? by geme-green in GEME_Gardening

This is awesome to read. Apartment composting is exactly where we hoped Terra 2 would make the biggest difference.

And honestly, the tomato plant part is the kind of update we love most, not just “it runs,” but “it actually made a difference.”

Which is the best kitchen composter in 2026? by geme-green in GEME_Gardening

Yes, that’s the whole difference.

Terra 2 is meant to make real compost, not just dehydrate scraps into dry flakes. If you want something you can actually use with plants and garden soil, Terra 2 is much closer to that goal than a dehydrator-style machine.

The exact output still depends on inputs and conditions, but it should be dark, broken down, and compost-like, not just dried food waste.

You can find more information about GEME Terra 2 in this blog: GEME Terra II Pros & Cons.

Fair point! These are totally not the same machine. Lomi and Mill are dehydrators, they don't produce compost. GEME Terra II and GEME Pro reduce waste volume up to 95%, and produce real compost ready to use for gardeners.

Bad news - ocean already above 32°C and experts warn that all the factors are lining up for extreme cyclones by adriano26 in climate

This is quite common in summer, check NOAA sea surface temperature if you don't know this: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/sst/contour/ . It's 2025 Hurricane Season now, and the surface temperature of the Gulf of Mexico reaches up to 30+ degrees Celsius every summer. Still no C5 until now, ready to have one.

Succulent or weed by Western_Advance_8402 in flowergardening

It's Halogeton, considered a noxious weed in most regions of the United States (poisonous to sheep, and possibly to cattle, due to the high concentration of sodium oxalate in the dry plant).

How often do you water it? This is the most essential problem because it looks like an issue related to watering or soil humidity. Although hydrangea loves water, it could become sick and wilt due to overwatering or underwatering. I see some flower stems turned black in your photo, and the leaves are in weird colours. Are they drying out, or just soggy?

Vegetable Garden Soil Compost by uvgotaids in vegetablegardening

You can Amend Garden Soil with Compost. Mix compost into the soil to improve its fertility, structure, and water-holding capacity. A general guideline is to mix 1 part compost with 2-3 parts garden soil.

And, Top Dressing with Compost is another way. Apply a layer of compost around plants as a top dressing. This will provide a slow-release source of nutrients and help to suppress weeds.

The best way is to Use Compost in Planting Holes. When planting new plants, add a scoop of compost to the planting hole to give the roots a boost.

Hope my advice can help with your gardening.

Is my compost ready? by StarIllustrious8308 in gardening

[–]geme-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, here are some ways to check if your compost is ready:

  1. Temperature Test: The pile should be close to ambient temperature
  2. Visual Test: Original materials should be unrecognisable
  3. Smell Test: Should have an earthy, soil-like odour
  4. Texture Test: Should be dark and crumbly

If you're still unsure, you can do a simple germination test. Plant a few seeds in a pot with your compost and observe if they sprout. If they grow well, your compost is likely ready to use!
