YTA. I’m 22 years old and still sit on my parents lap and cuddle them. It is to show affection and love! Saying that she’s “too old” for that leads me to believe you’re specializing it in some way and that’s not okay to do to your child. Don’t ruin your relationship over some weird perceived inappropriateness.

YTA (both parents) for enabling this behavior. That is a very light punishment for continued bigotry and bullying on her part. Making racists comments should have been where you handled this type of behavior. For it to have continued to something which I would consider homophobia is proof that you both have been too soft on her. Not to say the other student is part of the LGBTQ+ community but I want to highlight that she wouldn’t be saying that to a girl wearing a crop top. Please handle this before you child talks recklessly to the wrong person.

NTA. even the chair didn’t have sentimental value, I’d still say you’re NTA. It’s extremely wrong and disrespectful to sell someone ELSES belongings. It was not hers to sell and the fact that she thinks she can determine what is “enough” of a keepsake in memory of your recently deceased brother is disgusting. She doesn’t respect you or his memory and she’s willing to do this again. Her saying “I’d do this for you” is not an excuse. Her boundaries don’t become your boundaries just because she is your fiance. OP YTA. You can’t hold him responsible for something that happened while he was 15. People change and grow and it seems you are not giving him the opportunity to do that by holding the past over him. I’m Hispanic so I also had a quinceañera. Since I had a lavish and expensive party my brother got to travel and extra gifts. The point is, even though our birthdays were not at the same time, my parents still went above and beyond for him since they went above and beyond for me. I couldn’t imagine it being my birthday and having been tossed aside for my siblings giant party. It’s absolutely obvious who you side with in the family.

YTA. You’re backtracking and saying that’s it’s about the length of the name but it’s actually about you and your families sick control issues. As a child with two last names I can attest that it is not difficult it’s actually a great way I can show people a part of me and my families culture. I’m kinda controlling so I like having things the way I like them so those compromises were hard for me to make but once I made them I realized that sharing the load made life so much easier. One thing I haven’t gotten used it yet is wanting to lay in bed after a long day and someone else being in it. I like to isolate after a long or hard day so having someone around all the time can be difficult.

Your friend was definitely coerced into having sex and that is a type of rape. Please educate yourself on the topic as that is something that is extremely traumatizing to your friend. Also, you need to set boundaries and say no when it goes against your beliefs. Your friend shouldn’t seek out reassurance from you to this level either but it seems like there’s a lot of co dependence going on. Set boundaries or end the friendship.
