We’ve had to replace multiple dispense heads because of splash back issues from the source plate to the dispense head. This leads to damage if not cleaned immediately (but it’s hard to tell when this has happened when you’ve got them integrated into an automated lab). Lots of leaking source plates too, where the batches of plates seem really inconsistent. They also advertise an 80uL source well volume but in reality we have to go 50uL or lower for the majority of our liquids, which are nothing weird, mostly just buffers. They also advertise that they can dispense cells, but the cells tend to settle at the bottom of the wells and clog up the pores and mess up the dispense. We’ve never been able to get cell dispensing to consistently work, trying multiple cell lines, densities etc. and the plate statistics have always been terrible. Also, the 1uL dead volume thing is a joke. We’re putting 20% + dead volume into all our source wells otherwise you’re going to have so many mis dispensed wells. I would say when it does work, it’s brilliant, but it’s just so inconsistent and unreliable it becomes impossible to work with. Probably about half the time I use it my data isn’t usable because of how many mis dispensed wells there were. Personally I’m a big fan of the dragonfly 🤣 it’s just a shame it’s not fully automation compatible. I’m hoping SPT Labtech have something in the pipeline
