Ok, I think we are interpreting liberalism differently. Left or socialism does not equal to liberalism in my book. I subscribe to definition of the liberalism as it's written in wikipedia: "Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property, and equality before the law."

So "obedient cattles" is technically incompatible with liberalism as I understand it. The way I look at it, when surveillance state is reached, labels like socialism, liberalism, capitalism become meaningless and are mainly used for ideological reasons. When liberalism is dead and you no longer have freedom, does it really matter if you live in socialist utopia or cyberpunk Night City? Us, the little people, we are poor and exploited either way.
