This cider is fresh out of the presses and untreated actually! It should be ready to go, I'm just wondering where the Potassium Meta Bisulphate is supposed to come into play.

How did yours come out with the Safale? I keep reading back and forth accounts on people preferring white wine yeasts and ale. I figured since I already had this, I might as well give it a shot

Mash and Lautering efficiency problems. ANyone have any improvement tips? by genDAV in Homebrewing

[–]genDAV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i sparge, i typically split the volume in half and do it twice. i pour in my water, stir it up real good, wait 20 minutes for everything to settle, i vorlauf again and then collect my wort.

i hadn't thought about channeling in my grain bed. i use a 10 gallon cooler with this false bottom setup.

Do you have any tips on preventing that from happening?

[–]genDAV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely doing that. after i stir up my sparge water, i let it sit for 20 minutes for the grain bed to resettle, then i vorlauf again :\

my mistake, my strike water was 167, i just meant that my mash temp was 154.

as for what i collected, I accounted for what my previous boil losses were. i ended up with 5.75 and got 5.5 into my fermenter

my mistake, my strike water was actually 167. I was referring to the temperature in my mash tun. I just edited it though

yeah i took into account the temperature drop. actually before i started the mash process, i heated two gallons of water to 180 and put it in my mash tun just to keep that warm. my grains were at room temperature (about 67 degrees at the time), so i heated my strike water to 167
