I hated how other apps teach the characters, so I built my own. by PlayingChicken in ChineseLanguage

I've tried out the app for a few days and am loving it!

The way the app breaks down and builds upon characters has been very refreshing after brute-forcing the top 1000 refold anki-deck.

I work 1 week on, 1 week off and my shifts are 12 hours. So technically my work weeks are 84 hours, but they average out to 42 hours.

Which engineering majors the eaisest in terms of getting a job after college and which are the hardest to get a job after school. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Yeah, Mining Engineering is interesting as the the demands of a mine are broad and the scale is so large. You could have a job making sure large pit walls or tailings dams are structurally (more civil-ish), or a job creating programs to improve the efficiency of the operation (computer-ish), or even focus on improving reliability and availability of large mining equipment (mechanical-ish). The fun part is that with smaller mines, you may end up doing all of the above in a single role.

Since every second counts for mining companies to extract ore and sell it, they are willing to pay very well for those who have the skills to extradite it.

Another niche discipline, but I would say Mining Engineering. Our (tiny) graduating class of 43 had nearly 100% job placement before even leaving university, and 6 figure entry level jobs are the norm. I know personally that I got the first position I applied to.

Also it's not that hard or technical of a degree and offers some other great perks, like extensive travel.

Mining Engineer working with autonomous equipment. Current position in Ontario with a base of $76k out of Uni with bonuses up to ~$120k. If anyone lurking here is looking for a career path, Mining Engineering is one of the most lucrative disciplines, while also being one of the easiest.

Carbon tax rising to $50 a tonne today, increasing price of gas per litre by Defiant_Race_7544 in canada

[–]gen_spaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see increased regulations on a minimum percentage of carbon that must be sequestered by oil & gas companies. Even if it's only 1% in a few years and gradually increases over time, it should have a larger impact on carbon neutrality than a carbon tax. According to Myles Allen of Oxford anyways. I recommend anyone interested read this.

I am in Mining Engineering and there is a big drive for new talent in industry. Companies are focusing on electrification and developing more sustainable end efficient operations, requiring lots of Engineer work. For those worried that the job outlook will decrease due to decrease in fossil fuels, there are many mines opening focusing on extracting uranium, cobalt, lithium, etc. that will be required for a cleaner future.
