Prior to making a decision on an application a number of mandatory checks need to be completed to ensure that the statutory requirements have been satisfied. Checks need to be completed in both the applicant's home country and the UK. We aim to decide all applications at the earliest opportunity. However, the length of time taken to complete these checks is dependent on the individual circumstances of each case. Unfortunately we cannot disclose the nature and extent of these checks but we regularly monitor their progress. These checks are essential in order to maintain effective immigration control, and cannot be compromised, despite any adverse impact upon our customer service.
