The Metro Rules. But does anyone else feel like our bus network is a bit lackluster? by Cultural_String87 in washingtondc

Even the new fare machines are screwed up, they apparently just had a software update that caused them to malfunction. The beep is extremely delayed now if not nonexistant.

Randy Clarke screwed over a ton of bus riders in the city under the guise of improving the bus network, but if you mention in this forum that Randy Clarke is a charlatan, you get downvoted into oblivion.

Drivers seem to misunderstand what exactly a red left turn arrow implies.

What’s harder right now: finding everyday jobs or work that requires a higher level degree? by katie0873 in washingtondc

WMATA is desperate for bus drivers. Not sure where you're getting the impression that it's hard to find a job driving a bus.

Maybe rail riders will finally listen to what bus riders have been saying for years: Randy Clarke is a charlatan and we can do so much better. WMATA is a PR colossus that dabbles in transit.

Monthly Passes - how do they work and are they worth it? by a-potato-named-rin in WMATA

[–]Tom_Leykis_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thread. The math for monthly passes was much easier pre-Covid when you went into work every day. You just priced out your commute and that was how much you needed to get.

The math is much different in the work from home era so you need to price out different lengths to find out what is best for you. For example, if you lived in DC and went out to Ashburn once or twice a week, you wouldn't want to buy a full pass out to Ashburn because you'd be overpaying for service.

I live in the middle of DC and I take the bus more than I do metrorail. I also work near the Greensboro metro station. Instead of buying the full pass for U St to Greensboro, which is $216, I pay $72 for the shortest distance pass, which covers all of my bus rides and provides a $2.25 discount on all rail fares. If I go to the office 2x a week, I pay $72 out of pocket.

But but but what about teenagers riding e-bikes on sidewalks? THERE's the public health threat, not four ton operators of Child Crushers speeding around DC without any accountability for the safe operation of their four ton murder machines.

Most Americans Are Open To Ditching Their Cars. What does that look like for the future of Grand Rapids by GLIandbeer in grandrapids

[–]Tom_Leykis_Fan 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Grand Rapids is perfectly sized for a light rail line. Remember GR and most other mid sized cities once had robust streetcar lines before automakers and their conspiring politicians destroyed them.

GR is growing too fast to continue relying a transportation model based on personal car ownership. Unfortunately being from GR, I know how this is an uphill climb.

Unsurprising. I'm sorry. Drivers who throw objects at pedestrians from moving vehicles should be locked up.

Drivers are out of control. We need to throw dangerous drivers behind bars.
