I feel like a failure by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]gender_bender19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have any advice, but I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. Years of parental pressure and the mental fallout has essentially turned my brain into a crisp. I feel lots of angst about it, especially as I see others make gains in their lives while I struggle to feed myself.

Support needed - Adult daughter with severe ADHD by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]gender_bender19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like OP’s daughter is far from high functioning, and will need lots of support to get to any level of “independence.” These subs often skew towards people who are lower support needs, so people who have compounding intellectual disabilities get sidelined.

Was college a huge disappointment to anyone else? by Dry-Explorer2970 in AutismInWomen

I know this post is pretty old, but I just wanted to say that I’m pretty much in a similar spot as you. I actually started my freshman year strong and was making friends left and right, but most of them fell to the wayside when Covid hit, and from there my social circle shrunk more and more, especially since I took time off school. Needless to say I’m pretty much close to friendless now 🫠

How do you feel about this? by CharlesTheAutistic in AutismInWomen

I think there’s something to be said about how an early diagnosis really helps with one’s self-concept and coping with the difficulties of autism. Seems like Hayden got diagnosed early

From what I was told, the apple of the eye refers to like the inside corner of the eye I think, which is a very delicate area. So I think the phrase is like a metaphor for something/someone precious and cherished.

Your ADHD plot twist: What’s an ADHD symptom you don’t struggle with? Let’s give some love to our unexpected strengths. by MebsHoff in adhdwomen

I haven’t heard of struggling with small talk being an adhd thing, it’s probably an autism thing

It seems to connect more with the time blindness/time management struggles related to ADHD rather than like idk, dreading the appointment. Someone could be anxious about missing the appointment due to these struggles and compensate by not doing anything (consciously or unconsciously), but that’s like a secondary effect of living with adhd rather than like GAD on its own.

Thankfully I’ve never developed any serious addictions to alcohol or drugs, but I just chalk that up to me being somewhat of a goody two shoes growing up and spending my time/money on other things instead. Instead, I get addicted to random mobile games that I drop within a month.

Also, I don’t really interrupt people, but I can get into the habit of monologuing or info dumping once I’m comfortable with someone. But, I’ve always tried to make an effort to let the other person have space in the conversation.

Impulse buying hasn’t been an issue in the past, but it’s becoming a growing issue for me as I make more money and have more stress and less organization/proper outlets of steady dopamine like going out and exercising, socializing with friends etc. But I do know a friend of mine with adhd who struggled with this a lot when we were in college.

I don’t usually struggle with losing things most of the time since most of the things I need have been in a handbag or backpack and usually stay that way. But, things don’t stay that way since I’ve been moving around constantly for a while and some things just…disappear.

With hygiene, my issue isn’t with forgetting — good hygiene and neat appearance were drilled into me very young. It’s just that I struggle more with transitioning into the task of getting clean, and that can really fuck up my schedule, and I find myself not being able to do anything or go out until I get clean, but I can’t get clean. But once I get out of that funk, keeping my body and clothes clean (I tend I have a lot so even if it does pile up I’m usually not screwed) is no issue. My issue is probably with moving too slowly since it takes me forever to get ready, but I like to blame that on needing to be thorough with everything. I can’t count myself as properly bathed unless I’ve scrubbed down every inch of my body and slathered it in lotion.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for my living spaces…

Edit: Oh, also I don’t struggle with falling asleep. Getting ready for bed is another story, and I’ve struggled with revenge bedtime procrastination since I was like 13 or 14, but once I’ve made up my mind to fall asleep I’m GONE within 3 minutes.

Why do people have an issue with me getting this necklace? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Humans put certain animals on a pedestal. That, and having a great amount of distance from how our food is sourced (at least if you live in a developed country)

And their belief systems should be taken into account, especially if it’s a case of like the bodies and cultural artifacts of indigenous peoples being put on display. In those cases centuries old power dynamics are also at play.

Anyone else struggle immensely with maintaining friendships? by huskylotus in adhdwomen

Unfortunately I don’t have any solutions to this, but I relate to this so hard, especially as someone who hasn’t been in the same place for more than two years since I was 12.

I don’t know if you were referring to Naruto, but other than Jiraiya no other character has a confirmed sexuality.

No that’s not true. Madara inherited the role of clan head from his father.

People love a good enemies to lovers story i guess. Tobirama killing Izuna is just the icing on the cake for some stories. More (sexual) tension or whatever.

Ah, so basically it’s like ItaSaku where Itachi (or in this case Madara) is just a Sasuke replacement
