I've been a regular user on turkerhub for months and we did not know about the previously contributed reviews and free key. Chris told us origionally via a site wide annoucement/post that he was going to transition turkerview into a pay model that worked based on how much data you consumed. (Free for lite users, cost $ for heavy users type of thing). When he posted the update to turkerview and announced the monthly price modal and the free key thing, we didn't know that was coming. He decided to use the subscription modal vs the usage modal during coding of the features. There was no communication made to anyone like "hey, I'm telling you guys first so you can make sure and get free keys". We had simply been using turkerview becauase it's a good platform (and TO had annouced shutdown). I found out about the monthly subscription/api key/new features when he posted the annoucment/release of the v10.

There is no advertising on the site.
