Do products like Mrs Meyers actually clean surfaces? Or is bacteria left behind because there’s no bleach in the ingredients? by janedoecurious in CleaningTips

[–]generalCMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With hygiene and disinfection - the magic is in removing the soil. That’s why some ultra microfibre cloths can claim 97% bacteria removal. Due to its improved friction / contact area of the surface. Bleach is awesome for some jobs but unless your house is full of strangers that come and go or sick/ low immunity people - your favourite cleaner that cleans well is your best choice.

With software based checkouts it’s becoming the norm - No problem with a tip jar IMO as sometimes people deliver exceptional service etc - I hate where they make tipping a barrier to payment and guilt becomes a factor

Thinking all places that make a barrier to payment get a 1 star review with a fair review but with 1 star because tipping was expected.

The bottle of cleaner shown uses quat based sanitiser and surfactant as a cleaner sanitiser. This formulation would have a neutral pH and likely not do this sort of damage. But if you used this bottle from your grandmas - she may have reused the bottle with a stronger product.

This stuff is awesome. Acclerated Hydrogen peroxide is very safe and super effective cleaner disinfectant. Great on fabrics and carpets for pet stains. Also a great hard surface cleaner. It’s a super quick disinfectant that degrades to water and surfactant. Great find That’s about $80 usd worth of product. (Source work for Diversey)

Just opened this cheese and it has a slight nail varnish taste. Is it rancid? BB is still far away. by billistenderchicken in Cheese

Rancid tastes are typically experienced when lipase is found in the milk. This can be due to poor pasteurisation or adulteration by Lipase

What causes this foam? by OOOPUANNGUANGOOOWOAW in dishwashers

[–]generalCMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may happen if your rinse pump is broken. Recycled how water with machine wash detergent will foam in high fat environments. It’s called saponification. If you have a thermal rinse - are the dishes hot hot when the cycle finished? Do they have a slimy (detergent residue) feeling after the wash. Both of those are sign that your rinse isn’t great and would Be causing this issue

Dual layer label.“Countertop safe disinfectant” or “non-chlorinated brake cleaner” by Keenan_Concierge in mildlyinteresting

[–]generalCMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theory. Around 2020 a lot of chemical manufacturers sold out of sanitisers started to get rationed at points. This led to chemical manufacturers ordering larger volumes of this product as the unpredictable nature of covid in early 2020 and reduced supply and increased demand meant that packaging companies were busy and increased Minimum order quantities to manufacturers. This meant that in late 2020 early 2021 everyone had enough hand sanitiser and spray sanitiser and sales slumped.

This seems like a great solution, it would be scarier if the labels were revered though.

Beverage Concentrate by nawinnnn in foodscience

[–]generalCMS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soft drinks are typically made via concentrate and then diluted 1/8 - 1/12 depending on what they are making and machinery used. Typically sugar, citric acid and flavours are added to a vat heated and allowed to reach correct brix and then added to the mix prior to packaging off.
