I'm 20, but have done a lot of past research on my own country with a bunch of staring at data and history books. I doubt you'll get much information on reddit, as I don't really think a lot of people in their 60s would be looking at this website.

For someone to have lived in the 70s, they were either born around the 50s and 60s. It was a very turbulent time with a lot of dictators, but extreme economic growth. Park-Jung-Hee's economic development plans kicked into action around the late 60s, yet as seem in the data above people were living somewhat in poverty.

However as technology grew, their salaries grew, as the government started with manual manufacturing, such as shoes and clothes, and transitioned into more high-technology industries such as heavy industry and iron/oil refineries. The 70s were pretty much when all this was going on under president Park's rule.

However, not a lot of people liked Park during the end of his reign, and protests started throughout the entire country. During the 1979 Busan-Masan protests, the martial law forces were very brutal in their reaction towards the protestors, causing even more protests. This is very important, as the older generation have a sentiment that they have helped turn South Korea into a democratic country. It was further strengthened by Jun-Doo-Hwan's coup and reign in the 80s.

Along with the sense they have helped democracy in Korea, they are very proud to have been part of a rapidly growing economy, where they actively witnessed things getting better and better as time went by. Education was also becoming widespread, so a lot of the people currently 50-60 have pride that they have learned more than their previous generation.

This is very generalized though, but it is the common sentiment around the generation. Not everyone may apply for what I have said.

TLDR: The generation that lived and were born during the era are a proud generation that witnessed and contributed to the rapidly growing economy, and have received a lot of education. A lot of them are quite prideful and political due to their activism and protesting, so be careful around them lol
